ok using a fender tele, a marshall and a boss super overdrive how should i set them up so i get a cool blues sound going from a slightly gritty clean sound to a screamin lead? i'm just using SRv as a point of reference so y'all get an idea of the sound i'm after

Guitar -> Super OD -> Amp usually works best

Seriously, start with a very low gain on the amp. Note you don't want the Clean channel, because it won't get the Fendery-tone you'll need.
Set the Super OD (if I remember my old BOSS pedals correctly) for a fairly high Drive and a low output (or is that the other way around? it's been years, but you want the white stripe indicators of the knobs pointing at the Tone control in the center of the pedal - one at 4 or 5 o'clock and the other at 7 or 8 o'clock).

You'll also want a Compressor set to a bit of a "pnnngggoowwwww" sound, but not too harsh.

For screaming lead tone, you'll probably want another distortion pedal after the S.O.D. or if your amp has 3 channels, use #3 for solos.

Hmm-mm, you set the output up high and the gain rather low.

Or you can just crank both knobs.

Compressor? SRV didnt use no stinkin compressor.

He didn't say things like "pnnngggoowwwww" either!

hahaha

i've actually found oding the gain channel slightly like you say not what i want... it doesn't spank properly..i can't get the treble out...i've fallen in love with the sound of putting my clean channel on 10 tho, and boosting it with the super overdrive, with the level on 10 oclock, the tone on 3 oclock and the drive on just about 9 oclock ..it really brings out that glassy, spanky clean sound...i guess what i'll do is boost the gain for solos using the other drive channel, or doin what srv did and get another drive pedal...

Well, you're getting the main output from the amp, the OD is just there for a slight boost. A Marshall isn't going to get an SRV-type tone (unless it's a Bassman) simply because of the gain structure, so you want the amp's gain low and the OD gain high.
Since the OD gain is high and the amp's volume is high, the OD Output should be low to maintain the amp's volume when kicking the OD in and out.

The Compressor is there to add sustain to the lower gain settings and give a slightly sharper attack. Unless of course you are using 12s and have an iron fist

i guess essentially what i'm doin is boosting the signal with the od so it sounds like i'm running humbuckers into a ccranked clean channel, but the super overdrive is great coz it really accentuates the treble and i think it always makes the sound alot tighter as well

Let's not forget that SRV was known to use a Marshall or two...even JCM800s.

I used to be able to get a pretty spot on SRV tone using the clean channel on my JCM900, my '63 Strat and a TS-9. I got a reissue VibroVerb for more of an SRV tone, and couldn't get what I wanted.

However, the closest I ever got was with a Peavey 4x10 Bassman copy and the TS-9. I was using a Fernandes at that point as the '63 was gone.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Using the following:

G&L S-500 -> Korg G4 -> TS-808 RI -> TS-9 RI -> Trace Elliot Tramp clean channel

I'm getting a pretty good "Cold Shot" tone.

To be honest, anything single coiled with an OD pedal from the Tubescreamer family and a half-decent amp and you'll get into the ballpark.
