nice, it's always so cool to find mistakes and shit in others music and playing and attitude but usually those "critcasses" haven't accomplished shit in the music biz'

so what? that's COOOL, that is rock'n'roll, it's all about the attitude and showmanship. Guys who get laid the most are arrogant/cocky badboys. Jason was all about the real rock'n'roll thing. He wanted the Whitesnake gig but ended up in DLR band. He was a huge hairbands fan, that's what he wanted to do just rock and get laid. He wasn't interested in doing all that prog-shred crap anymore.

Boys... remember... that was 1986. Becker was just showing how it was done in 1986. It was the norm back then although he was probably one of the best 16 year olds in 1986 for sure!

damn, I guess once you reach a certain level of proficiency, you are beyond the criticism of the mere mortals who buy your music & pay for tickets to see you play. If we're not as good on the instrument as they are, we have no right to suggest that a player might've had an off night, or question a player's note choices, or comment on whether we thought that player did a bad job of covering someone else's tune.

So who is allowed to critique the playing of someone like Steve Vai? Not too many people better than him, and none that are better AND more critically & financially successful. If they did say something bad about Steve, I'm sure folks would just say it was sour grapes, that they were jealous of his success.

yeah exactly , i mean when i see a shredder...i wanna see him nail every note and really put the emotion into it that was on the record, not some half arsed arrogant out of tune swipe at it...i don't care if he was 16, i wouldn't dare play anything that badly even if i was technically proficient, noone wants to hear someone play something badly...or maybe i'm just a freak for thinking that??

dude, have you EVER played in front of a huge crowd? and played intense guitar solos? have you? Just try to nail every single note, even Yngwie thinks it is fucking hard to do that. So stop criticising if you don't have any clue about live performances. It pisses the real players off because real players have played on the big stages and fucked up their solos.

With statements like the above one you simply must post some MP3's of your playing. If you have any when you were 16 it would be cool if you could post those too.
My guess is you wouldn't even get the job changing strings for Becker back in the day. Sorry for the attack but your statements suck ass. AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! We are talking about a 16 year old high school kid in 1986 playing out of a Peavey 1 x 12 combo. There were no slow downers so that you could learn songs and massive internet info back then. There was very little tab and most players were just discovering the neo-classical style. I teach and I can tell you that most 16 year olds have the most trouble with vibrato and bends. It takes maturity to sound great. Becker sounds great at 16. Who gives a rats ass if he didn't nail one of the hardest songs to play EVER. There were a ton of great shredders in 1986. Becker stood out amongst them. He also landed the most sought after gigs at the time beating out known professional shredders. He was a phenom. A jewel.
Bashing a 16 year olds playing who died tragically is just wrong.
Jason Becker was and is on the list of the best metal shredders ever. This isn't a popularity or arrogance list. This is a list created by other great guitarists of the time. Everybody... and I mean EVERYBODY thought Jason Becker was amazing. When he got sick and eventually died there were literally hundreds of tribute concerts put on by the greatest metal shredders of all time.
To me... he is the Stevie Ray Vaughan of metal. Cut down in his prime.

                      Re: Becker does Yngwie....

its not about whether i can play as good as him...or whether he was only 16 at the time...and i have played to a few hundred people before... but if i was gonna play something, even if i'd learned it entirely by ear, i wouldn't want to play it half arsed and badly...regardless of the technicality of the piece...i'd play something i could actually do justice to and show respect to rather than play a really bad version of one of the greatest instrumentals ever...noone gives a f##k about the other things...the fact is he played it badly

yeah and? i'm not judging the fact he was only 16...the fact is he was clearly more than good enough to play black star and just played it badly...

so you are saying he wanted to play badly? if you have an off night then there's NOTHING you can do about it.
and a couple of hundred people isn't something that I would call a huge crowd.
