Re: Becker does Yngwie....

oh sure, it means nothing to you Beardies. But think of the poor beardless teen, who struggles to convince the newsagent to let him buy that skin mag, who can't buy his own beer, who can't pick bits of breakfast bacon out of his matted chin hair when he gets peckish at 3.00 in the afternoon.

Never a problem for me, of course. But I'm just sayin'

Very poignant, G. But you forgot the part where the beardless ones can't convince a female that they've actually hit puberty!

Or ZZ Top not letting you join due to your patchy beard. It was definitely a dark chapter in my life

I had to shave on my 13th Birthday. I had a full beard by the time I was 14 or 15....which I didn't grow. I can grow hair up to my eyes, practically.

Funny, I have a full head of very thick hair, but I have two bald spots on my face! Just popped up within a month of each other about a year ago.

Some of the worlds best violinists won't play Pagnini because his stuff was so technically difficult to play perfectly. The fact that anyone can play that on a guitar is a miracle. That anyone can play it that FAST on guitar? Is a gift from god. I've always felt that Jason would have gone on to become easily the most technically gifted guitarist this world had ever seen. However sometimes life isn't fair, but yet as someone already pointed out, Jason isn't dead. Nothing more needs to be said really.

well, flame on if you want, but in my opinion paganini is/was a perfect example for mindless shredding. sure, it's technical as hell, and i admire anyone who can play that stuff on guitar or any other instrument, but MUSICALLY speaking i think it's totally unmelodic. his 5th caprice is 16th note wanking from start to finish without and musical content imho.
still, that guy had major chops, so i'm in no way dissing him. i'd just prefer listening to someone at a similar technical level that actually writes MUSIC instead of show off pieces.

Re: Becker does Yngwie....

He is often criticized for that so your not alone in that thought. Paganini was in his time somewhat of a rockstar and people thought he had made a deal with the devil to be able to play as brilliantly as he did. At the same time people often spoke in whispers about his compositions were all skill and little emotion which rather flies in the face of the usual violin concerto's. Vivaldi IMO is a much better composer who wrote extremely technical pieces but his compositions had emotion and passion. I believe Becker did Vivaldi's Four Seasons for guitar as well at some point..

Isn't the real problem here that people are actually listening to Malmsteen's albums for fun?

Yea, but Bill is right, Uli did it also. At least some of it.

The closest musician to Vivaldi who is living is Uli Jon Roth.
The closest musician to Pagannini who is living is Yngwie J Malmsteen.
I also agree, Vivaldi and Pagannini were considered the rock stars of their day. They were world famous. Hundreds of years later their music is as relevant as ever.

That version of crowley with Yngwie and Ripper kind of sucked. The end solo was really anti-climatic.

I was more impressed with my dude Ripper than I was with the Malmanator..

I was just informed tonight by a friend of Rippers' geetar player in "Beyond Fear" that he maybe interested in my ass playing second fiddle..

hmmm...I really want to do my own thing...but this sounds kinda cool..Ripper has name recognition that landed the guitar player John a Engle endorsment and a SPV deal signing..we'll see what happens..this is just talk at the moment..I'm not puttin any faith in it at the mommet..until I officially talk to them.

The thing around here is that everyone that are decent players all know each other ..or heard of each other..we don't put adds out to find players..we just find ourselves eventually.
