I hate to say it but he really butchered this..it's painful to watch...

    Black Star

in fact has anyone noticed that in quite a few of his vids eg serrana he fucks up?

Butchered it? I don't know about that.. It wasn't the tightest playing and there were off notes, but at 16 at a high school talent gig that he obviously wasn't taking too seriously I think he did an acceptable job.

Becker was and will always be amazing. No wonder he got famous.

"that solo sucked...impressive as his technique may be but that solo didn't seem to go with the song underneath at all" on Paul Gilbert

"he really butchered this..it's painful to watch" on Jason Becker

well i guess my ears are very particular....no disrespect - i LOVE jason becker...in fact i have been playing cacophony all evening...but i was expecting better of him in that vid...rather than just a slap dash improv that was painfully out on some of the notes...i guess ur right he was only 16 at the time...

Bro... I'll cut you a little slack but think about it. Jason was 16 years old!!! It was 1986. I bet the only person on the planet that could play Black Star perfectly in 1986 was Malmsteen himself. Becker was also playing out of a Peavey 1 x 12 combo at school! Damn....

Plus, doesn't everyone start out as a novice? It's obvious that Jason progressed beyond what he's shown doing in that video. Consider it a snapshot of his development.

Can you say that every single thing you've ever played in your life was perfect? Have you ever heard old recordings of yourself and cringed?

I'd say that vid shows an insanely talented 16 yr old kid. who needs to work on tone and the slow hand technique a bit.

but damn if he doesn't have all the fastest licks down perfect!!
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

If that's considered butchering a song, I'll take that talent anytime. Too bad the guitar isn't a bit more isolated, it would be cool to use a DAW to add a better backing band around his playing.
