I wouldn't expect Yngwie to really sound anything other than Yngwie at this point..I think Jason was pretty much doing the same-his own trip.
Alot of guys get up and go off the cuff jam/improv 'to the progression'.. I think this was an instance that was caught on tape. I really doubt Jason ever thought it would be published...and from what I've read, its interesting that these guys publish or display a side of themselves which at one time.. they probably never wanted to be scrutinized 'as a pro' which they later became. I've often read where Yngwie will say "oh my playing was so bad on 'this song' from Live Sentance" and how he was against the release of the performace.

Yeah He's still in Iced Earth..they take thier good ol' time in that camp..he does this on his off time..

Even when he was in preist he always had a little time to do his thing with his local guys with his old Seattle and now this Beyound Fear thing...which is like a Pantera-ish kinda thing..hey it's signed to SPV...same label as IE now I think..so? [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Yeah, Timmy is cool..we go back..my singer goes back when Ripper was a pudgy little kid..

Matt Barlow was the voice of Iced Earth...Tim did a good job as he did with priest...

I'd much rather work with my singer...I think he's MUCH better..

but "Ripper" has name recognition...so that's a cool thing.

I understand how you feel, but it's not Ripper's fault that
Matt decided to quit, which was because he couldn't support his family playing music. That's why Ripper does his own thing as well as Iced Earth, one gig wouldn't feed the family. Besides that his creativity is limited in IE since Shaffer calls the shots.

yeah, schaffer's a dick. i mean, at least he doesn't try to cover the fact that he IS iced earth, but still, i think he mentions that in every other interview which sounds kinda cocky to me.
his tone and rhythm skills rule, though [img]/images/graemlins/notworthy.gif[/img]

as for matt barlow, he definitely was the voice of IE, no doubt about that. he fit their style just like a glove, it was amazing. matt's voice along with schaffers tone is what got me hooked on IE in the first place....i remember listening to something wicked and being like "whoa....GREAT voice".

bill, go for the ripper gig if you can, you'd be flat out stupid not to do so!

Oh I know, I'm not one of those IE nutcases that blame Ripper. I in fact liked Glorious Burden. And I think any downfall in IE over recent years has been the fault of Schaffer not anyone else. Jon is a hell of a player but I think the guy has shitty taste. He though Burnt Offerings was their worst cd. Which cracks my shit up because I think it was by far their best. Well Stormrider was better but the vocals on that one kinda blew.

I saw Tim sing with IE during the Glorious tour and he fucking sang his ass off. He killed on some of the older stuff, Angel's Holocaust and the self titled song in particular brought the place down. So I have endless respect for the guy and his work ethic. Matt too, because he walked away from alot of fans to do the right thing for his family and follow his own dream. That takes some balls. Still Iced Earth just isn't the same. I think of them now as a different band with Ripper. Similar but not at all the same.

With the exception of the outro solo I thought that Yngwie/Ripper version of Crowley was kick ass.

And yes, Jason Becker is/was a god. 16 years old and shredding like that...wow.

Did you guys hear Jeff Loomis at 16.He was amazing at that age.Check out his solo at Jeff Loomis.com in the sounds section.Jason didn't put out his record until he was 18,so thats two years of wood shedding.He oviously wasn't at his full skill level in that video.

i actually didn't like the singerin iced earth..especially on the stormrider album...his vocals were kinda cringy which is a same seeing as the guitar on that album is awesome

Thanks, Rich, E and Fragle..yeah I would grab that gig if it were offered.."officially"..I was mentioned from some mutual friends of the band..my name came up..and the guitarist thinks I'm cool..Ripper and his woman always came to see me play during the days of the VH tribute..it was the first time I ever drank Cuervo(sp)..

People know who "Ripper" is...it would be silly not to..

I heard that Shaffer is a tool..he seemed like one in person..didn't really say much...I asked him of the Uber..compared to his Larry...he said.."The Uber smokes it" ..that was about it..Tim doesn't co-write anything I believe..That's Shaffer's gig..well he's got "vision" and formula"..so that's cool..

I like Tim cool guy ..great singer..but Matt was a huge part of their sound IMO..

Tim does do a good job as he did with Preist..

That Loomis solo at 16 makes me sick...Becker too..man, those fuckers are so damn good at such a early age..

Some guys are just born to play...and some have to really work at it..
