Christ, that's a surprise. I used to deal with a Phil Winfield over here, and I know he was going to the states - I should get in touch to see if he's the same guy.....

Wow, I never would have imagined he'd sell this. Wonder if he's hurting for cash? You'd think this would be one of the two or three most valuable Les Pauls in existence, even though the neck has been repaired.

I wonder how much he got for it, two million $s maybe?

every man has his price. Dont know what GARY'S was, but im sure it was one of those tough situations where you know you'd be a dumbass to pass on it.

Besides, he probably still has his kick ass jacksons and charvels........

Does anyone here know that store? Is it run by a Brit?

Might not be a tone machine anymore, since he had to have the neck repaired after it was snapped off in a car accident.

Maybe he just finally realized that the Jackson Soloist is a much better instrument...

Re: Gary sold IT...

Its a well known guitar but...under Gary's ownership it's gone from very good condition to 100% beat-to-shit, neck snapped, thrown off a cliff type condition.
It might be worth 30-50,000 I'd guess as a piece of rock memorabilia. I can't see it being worth that much more.

What's he playing these days?

It is a '59 Les Paul owned by both Peter Green and Gary Moore. I think it will bring more like $250,000, even in this condition. As long as the repair was done well, it should still be a tone machine.

Re: Gary sold IT...

$250,000 is the "regular" price for '59s these days as I've heard.

Considering that this is one of the most legendary guitars the price is way higher.
Clapton got a little bit less than mil for one of his strat and that wasn't nearly as legendary guitar as this one.

I couldn't imagine how much Billy Gibbons' Pearly Gates would cost as it is the most valuable guitar on this planet.

Well, you are probably right..I was lowballing due to condition. Also, remember that Gary is really not that well known in the mainstream...i.e. outside of guitar heads. Peter Green is a memory these days....

Still, I think someone will step up for this guitar, which has made some gorgeous and amazing music. If I was stinking rich, I'd go a mil for it...because it was used on my favorite Gary Moore stuff. Maybe he'll sell the Bluebreaker reissue and the Gov'nur pedal with it too...then you can HAVE the Still Got the Blues album setup!!

Mike

p.s. I think Pearly Gates could bring 2-3 million.

Re: Gary sold IT...

Well mebbe 50K is lowball. An excellent condition 59 with a deep flametop can sell for over 100K, since the flametops were very rare, mosy were plaintop. The plaintops can sell for 20K in great condition.

The guitar would be worth more in Europe, as Gary is way more well known.

I think though that there is little interest in Gary Moore over here though. He is a guitarists guitarist. We all know who he is, but there is little crossover to the general public.

Peter Green even less.

A repaired neck would seriously decrease the worth of it just as an insrument, by about 75% of its value otherwise. The value here is as rock memorabilia alone. What does Gary Moore's name add to it's value? Hard to guess. The thing is though, there are multitudes of people out there who have more money than they know what to do with, and price is no object if they decide they have to have something. I guess if the right person is out there it could sell for anything, regardless of what it might be "worth" in general.

Wow.. can't believe he sold it...
Yea these 59's never get sold less than 100k these days unless some heavy modification such as missing original pickups or broken neck.
I know a store that pays cash up to 250k for 59 LP.
If this becomes for sale for 100k, then I'd sell everything I have for it and plus my car and my house..
