The original guitarist in Fleetwood Mac back when they were a blues band in the 60's. He also played in the Bluesbreakers.
Did too much acid and spent most of his adult life in a mental institution. He is recording again but he's a shell of his former self.

Whoa dude, you are knowlegeable and I don't doubt it. You are in the business. The rest of what you say sounds like our views are more similar than not I guess.
I started all this musing that that this particular guitar may not be as valuable as some of the posters thought, (and me a long time Gary Moore fan) as it ain't a pearly gates, a blackie, etc., and Moore has sort of destroyed it, but it really is a guitar with a storied pedigree and it will still fetch a hefty price regardless. My original estimate was pretty silly. I had some interest in vintage guitars, and in the early 80's and had chances to buy 3-4 guitars at prices that are laughable now, and the jokes on me. I didn't do it, I was a kid, and frankly was more interested in newer bc riches, charvels etc. I bought the 66 strat from a neighbor for $600. It was repainted (bad home job) and the logo was gone (painted over), but it was the real deal, sounded great. I sold it back to him a year later cuz I wanted a guitar with humbuckers. During my search for another guitar I passed on a 68 les paul custom for $750. I also once sold a 1975 strat to a friend for $400 to buy a charvel pointy in 84. Still have the charvel at least. What good judgement I had eh? I can see why I'm not a vintage wheeler dealer.

Ah well, I'm sad to tell you that I'd take a new PRS over an old Les Paul any day.

Not anymore...I got out in '99 but I still talk to a few of my old peers.
I too have let a few get away that I regret (1980 Silverburst LP Custom for $450 in '89 to help pay for a Soloist sticks out). Oh well, its the nature of the beast I guess.
Cool that you still have the Charvel...my longest tenured electric is a Rand from '88 (see my avatar).

It's funny that I post on this thread at all, since I don't even like vintage guitar collecting. I buy guitars to play, and I don't want something I have to fret about getting a bump or scratch here and there.

Still, I'm no expert on LP collecting, and even I know that the Peter Green LP is one of the holy grails of LPs.

In the late 60's gold top or burst could be had for $300 or less by 71 $800 75 $1700 ( I still remember teasing a freind for paying so much for his burst) after that it went through the roof . The freind that paided $1700 sold it for $2500 and he tracks it whenever it sell the last time a few years ago it was sold for $125000.

I like to read the Les Paul forum, bottom of the barrel Bursts are going for 125K-150K, and those usually have issues. A nice clean Burst these days will set you back 250K easy.

To the Ls Paul freaks a Peter Green burst is the Same thing to us as a Chris Holms star. Awsoem player, not well known except for in the playing circle

I bet Gary had to get a Cool Million out of this
