    Re: Brad Paisley??!

I like country .. I like Metal I don't see any reason to be so limiting to any one thing .

With that stated.. With the lack of musicianship that the 90's brought in alternative music and the aging now "hairband" crowd a lot of country has transitioned a bit into that powerballad driven writing style. But more so there are some extemely talented guitar players who were probably good metal players 25 yrs ago. They just changed from 1 setup to another and moved their scales from minor to major .. LOL... Oh and added steel guitars and shit ...
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Dan Huff produces All the top artists now . He was a 80's guitar player in Giant. Its all going to sound like his style.

Junor Brown has got a pretty cool -un popuplar country sound. Some interesting guitar work on some of his albums.

He is also one hell of a bluesman. His tone, playing and vibe on "Monkeywrench Blues" is simply incredible....especially that tone. I don't know what amp he is playing on that tune, but that tone is from another world. I bet it is a Dumble...it has that vibe.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

I think someone here touched on this a bit... I've been listening to more country in the past few years due to:
                  a. wife digs it and has some cd's
                  b. better guitar pickers than current crop of pop rock and numetal

In fact, Brad Paisley tunes got me interested in the Tele sound so I bought a Model 7 in the past year. I love it. I also enjoy Keith Urban and began digging up old Waylon Jennings, Doc Watson & Jerry Reed tunes.
My band learned a medley we play out: East Bound and Down/Sesame Street Ladybug Picnic/What's New Scooby Doo theme. It's a riot to play!

I'm all over the radar too. Yesterday I bought 4 cd's:
My first - C.O.B. Are We Dead Yet
                  The Legend of Johnny Cash
                  G3 - (Malmsteen)
                  G3 - (Petrucci)

Brad is one bad ass player for sure.He uses Crook guitars loaded with rsguitarworks pots and caps.
                    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

i like country music the hard part is to play it wellIMO its harder than rock/metal to play as there are more tech involved-having said that i prefer loud rock music better

                          Absolutely smoking player. Period.

                          Check out Brent Mason too...

And, ahem...Keith Urban just rips too - a metalhead in his past life. Playing Marshalls through Bogner cabs as we speak

i think there are alot of great country bands out there right now with some kick butt guitar playing... and at least most of them still do solos... and not just tiny solos big solos that define a song...

unlike some of the new rock bands out there......

i also listen to everything, minus rap....lol

I hope the thread resurrection gods don't unleash on me....

I've seen Brad Paisley live three times in the last 12-14 months and I think he is phenomenal. He has incredible hand speed and just plays it mistake free through a great clean tone, although he does use a tube screamer and other effects.

He's not just a big hat with an acoustic who hires studio musicians to do the hard stuff.

Reminds me of Rhoads a little with all the little fills he throws in there.

Throttleneck is a cool instrumental off his 2007 cd and he burns it up in Mr. Policeman as well.

Dude is a flat out witch on guitar and could easily hold his own against the big time shredders if he cranked up the gain a bit.

Damn, I have heard great things about him but I have yet to hear him play something that I would call good. I guess I need to dig a bit deeper.

As for Danny Gatton who was mentioned hear, he was one of my favorites. Not really a country player per-se...he had a complete bag of tricks and could hang with just about anyone. I saw on my 25th birthday in Philly (January, 1993) and not only was he a mind blowing player but also a complete entertainer who had the crowd laughing when he wasn't playing. I miss his presence in the world of guitars greatly.

Another chicken-picker who was great but seems to have faded into obscurity is Michael Lee Firkins.
