Picked up a couple of DVD's Dio, Whitesnake, MSG

I have the Whitesnake DVD and I think it's dubbed too. They're perfect in comparison to other live albums and David's voice is not the same of 25 years ago.
But I really liked the DVD and had a good time.
With DIO DVDs I had very high expectations and I was a bit disappointed. I don't know why, but I enjoyned Whitesnake DVD more.

I've never heard a whole lot of Schenker, but let me tell ya, the guy is great! He flies around the guitar and is very melodic. I was impressed too about how low gain the guitar sound was. Just goes to show ya that a great player doesn't need loads of gain and sustain to pull off "shreddy" licks. Good stuff!

Yep. The guys that are really good don't use a lot of gain. They get tone from their fingers and using too much gain reduces the dynamics you can get from your fingers and reduces the harmonic overtones.

I love Schenker because he is such an interesting player. I don't get sick of listening to his playing like I do Yngwie's etc... I find I like to listen to the guys that are melodic and have space between notes and parts in their solos.

Yeah, I can't believe I hadn't really heard his stuff until recently. He is excellent!
