Within Temptation?

well, i'm just not into female vocals. i used to like nightwish but lately i just can't take it anymore. for some strange reason i'm getting into cheesy 80's singing, though

but there's one reason why i'd join a female-fronted band like those mentioned in this thread any day of the week:
girls love this music.
i can't say been there done that, but i *guess* that playing guitar in one of those chick bands is what playing guitar in a hair metal band used to be in the 80's. pure heaven

I don't think anybody but rap stars and those American Idol twits are making shitloads of money in the music biz anymore. Certainly not metal musicians.

Now, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that if you are in the right sort of female-fronted band you might get some goth-chick fan, umm, "appreciation." However, you'd be better off going into one of these wimpy indie-rock bands if you're just looking for female companionship. My wife is into that stuff and has dragged me to a few shows. Let me tell you, the amount of really hot college-age chicks at those shows is MIND-BOGGLING. I mean, they're going nuts over even the dorkiest, most talentless hacks up there on the stage, just because they're dressed the right way and pretend to be "sensitive." I'm pretty much out of the running for that business, since I'm (a) happily married and (b) almost 40 and look like it. Oh well.

yeah, but then again you just named it, there's a certain image that goes along with the indie rock stuff that i despise. i'll never dress like that, esp. on stage, just ain't gonna happen. but yes, lotsa hot chicks tend to dig that stuff. either that, or house
that's why i actually kinda dig bon jovi (at least the earlier "runaway" type stuff). they manage to have pretty much the same crowd, without looking like total fags
as for the money, i tend to disagree. think judas priest, they're rich as f*ck. have you ever seen glenn tipton's residence? but then again, they've been doing this stuff for 3 decades...
however, there certainly are a LOT of totally talentless fags that are making insane amounts of money. here in germany there's a band called tokio hotel who are making SHITLOADS of money right now, thanks to mtv and co. the thing is, their music is total shit, their lyrics just plain retarded, their singer looks like a girl (and a ugly one at that), and they're like 16 years old or something. go figure.....it's all about the media and the airplay that comes with them.

Sounds like I have to check out these guys out. There is always a band with a female vocalist in my CD player... Lacuna Coil, Tristania, Lullacry, early/mid ToT, Therion, Sins of Thy Beloved, Lana Lane, Epica, Nightwish, Leaves Eyes, The Gathering, Flowing Tears. Any other recommendations?

I found out about Within Temptation about a year ago and really dug the female vocalist
There are only a handful of their songs that I love while the rest are ok, but not killer.
My favorite songs are:
Ice Queen
Stand My Ground
Caged
Dark Wings
Candles

I play for Lycanthia who are in a similar vein and I can tell you that there are hardly any girls in our audience, girls may love this music but when it comes to playing live I guess you get more guys interested in the show.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've got a couple Moonspell CDs (Wolfheart, Irreligious). Have they gone to a female vocalist? Looks like I am going to check out Within Temptation and After Forever for starters and move on to some of the other band mentioned here.

BTW, I checked out Lycanthia. Pretty cool stuff. Where the heck can I buy a CD in the states?
