  • Anybody saw Yngwie live this year?

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone here had saw Yngwie live this past year. I'm supposed to go see him this Friday in Ashville , NC and was wondering what keyboard player he had with him and what his show was like. I know that Derek Sheranian from DT was playing with him for a while but didn't know if he was still with him or not. I'm really looking foward to the show because I thought I'd never get to see the Swedish Rocker himself. I told my wife that even if he comes out there and he's fat and sucks really bad he's still Yngwie Course Yngwie's tone may not be the best in the world but I've never known him to play badly. Anyway, just curious if anyone has seen the show yet.

    Thanks

saw him in LA last Fall.

not sure who was on keys. the show was good and he was not as fat as before. still fat, just not ridiculous like he was a while back.

totally worth seeing, he shreds like always.

I saw him in December in Atlanta. Yngwie was awesome. Not sure about the keyboard player, either. Yngwie has slimmed down a bit. I think he's playing tennis with his drummer. You won't be disappointed with the show. Let us know what you think.

Sherinian is in the current line up, it's on Yngwie's website.

I will be seeing him on the 26th at the House of Blues (which I hate, but they get the acts). I have never seen Yngwie and I am pumped. The show is "only" $20, which is a damn site better than the $36 they wanted for a ticket to see Satriani and Eric Johnson last week. I have seen both of them, so I passed.

I can remember when I could see Eric at Tip's for $10.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Thanks guys. Like I wasn't bouncing off the walls to see Yngwie anyway but now I'm really pumped that I know Derek is on keys as I'm a big DT fan! What a show this is going to be!

Ha ha! "Yngwie's tone not the best.." That made me laugh out loud, sorry Late last year i saw him in a small club and his guitar sound.... dude....was.... incredible! I pissed my pants when his tech did the sound check playing Yngwie's Strats! It was unbelieveably aggressive and punchy, yet clear as a bell, yet soft on the highs, hit your body with almost percussion-like blasts.

He (and his tech) has understood the very essence in clear distinctive LOUD live guitar sound. It has to cut through the band and has to stay away from the bass and kick drum sonically. No overly scooped mids here either like most metal bands so desire.
During an interview Yngwie did backstage (while the low-tuning-bassheavy-mudfest grunge support band was playing), he was asked about good guitar tone and nodded his head toward the stage saying: -This is what i'm trying to avoid. Crappy bassy muddy guitars.

Yngwie is a master in handling the guitar too, using its dynamic range, which cleverly hasn't been flattened by use of mega distortion, which only makes the guitar disappear in the mix.

They really nailed it that night.

Yngwie has the clearest guitar tone I have ever heard live. Its amazing actually.

Since I last saw him live (I believe it was in 83? 84? opening for the Scorpions) I never even knew he had ballooned. (Yeah, I stopped listening and paying attention). It's pretty amazing the guy is still touring and doing his thing. I regret that I missed some of the great guitarists around back then because they weren't tearing it up like Yngwie. Would have loved to have seen SRV play, but now that I'm older I can appreciate him more.

You missed out, because Stevie Ray was tearing it up like Yngwie. He was something else live.

When I saw YM at G3 his tone was the one that didn't cut thru when all three were on stage and was very mushy sounding. Must have been using a Vetta ;P

Glad to see this thread! I was going to post something along these lines, too. He'll be in town here on Sunday, and I was on the fence. He's playing at a great venue w/ fantasic acoustics. After reading this thread, I'll be there! Hopefully the set will be light on the tunes with cheesy vocals. If not, I can deal with it to see the master...

I was comparing his tone to the G3 DVD I just got and what I heard on Derek Sherianian's CD. I thought it was lacking on those two projects but I always liked it otherwise. I can't wait to see the show! I'm really stoked and I'll post a full review afterwards and some pics if I can get a camera in the door.

I wished I'd went to see SRV as well. I had a chance when I was younger and passed it up because I was 16 and stupid at the time. I've got to see alot of other greats though and Yngwie will be one of the best I'm sure.

I saw Yngwie in a small club in Houston a couple months ago. He was amazing like always and his tone was really good. Excellent show!
