I like it but they go off on hair bands & Kiss & cooper - their not heavy metal should have stuck with Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, 80's & 90's metal...........Real Metal!!!!!

I think they're focusing on GNR and Metallica tonight.

How many parts are there to this series?

I saw the Maiden segment, and what really caught my interest was the part about the early years with Di'Anno. I'm only familiar w/ the stuff with Dickinson, but I'm gonna get both of the first 2 discs now for sure. I like stuff that kind of straddles the line between metal & punk. No question that Dickinson has the better voice, but I don't know if I agree that they couldn't have gotten big with Di'Anno. Plenty of bands have gone on to play arenas without an operatic lead singer.

I only saw part of the show last night, but it was great. I wonder if anyone recorded the whole thing and put it on the Net?

I first discovered Maiden with Number of the Beast, so as a kid, I always figured the Di'anno years were somehow not up to par. But as an adult, Killers has become one of my favourite albums. Definitely check the first two out. And get yourself a copy of The Early Years DVD if you haven't already. It features some early documentary footage, as well as Maiden's Rainbow performance in support of the new Killers album. Rockin' stuff! I've had the Rainbow show on video since I was a kid, so it was very cool to see it released on DVD.

Well that's a narrow-minded view. Even if you don't LIKE those bands, they are a part of Metal's development and history and should be included in the documentary.

Nor - I agree, a great documentary so far. Part 4 is tonight but there was no preview of it at the end of 3. I'm guessing it's going to cover the thrash stuff - Metallica, Megadeth, etc. and maybe lead into the 90s - Pantera, nu-metal, etc.

I watched it last night , pretty cool stuff.
hey the hair bands bought metal to the masses, you've got to focus on them somewhere in here. I think tonight it's on to metallica and megadeth etc.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

There's nothing terrbily new on these shows but they are well produced and well written. There's probably a whole generation out there that doesn't know the history of metal and what really went down during those years, so kudos to VH1 for putting this together. I think far too often that VH1 focuses too much on shit hair metal and ingores all other aspects of it.

I loved the part where Jani Lane says, "I could shoot myself in the head for writing that song." :ROTF: Talking about Chery Pie.

                          I agree. Totally cool show.

I'm torn about that Jani Lane comment though. I see what he's saying...that it's a bummer to be known for one song. But damn, bro. You wrote a hit fucking record. One that people will be singing and partying to for years and years to come. Is that such a bad thing?

The first Maiden album has always been the one for me. I love Di'anno's voice and the way he attacks his vocal lines. I had high hopes for his solo stuff, but was let down in a big way. The first Battlezone was ok, but after that...nah. Dickinson is great but Paul just has this timbre to his voice that kills me.

I'll also agree that The Early Years DVD is great.
