I'm with you, Crankdaddy. He just sounded like a whiner that couldn't handle success. Being known for one song is more than 99% of the people trying to make it ever achieve. And if it's the right song, like American Pie or Born to be Wild, you can live the rest of your life off of it.

I believe they are showing all 4 tonight.

I don't think Jani was complaining that they are only known for one song. I think his complaint was that they had the album ready to go (It was going to be Uncle Tom's Cabin - which is a kick @$$ song by the way) and he let some record exec make him write another song with more mass appeal (i.e., Pop-like), and it became huge for them. But it is not like their other stuff (Uncle Tom's Cabin, 32 Pennies, DRFSR, Downboys, etc.) and now they are known for Cherry Pie instead.

Kind of like Extreme with More Than Words.

Just my $0.02. Here's your change.

From what little I've seen of this series, they've done a pretty good job. Previous VH1 efforts focused too much on the L.A. hairbands while often ignoring 'real' metal. But let's face it, a bunch of drugged-out glam rockers probably make for better TV than real metal.

So far the pparts I have caught are pretty good.

As with a lot of these VH1 shows they play for the lowest common denominator.....check out the TOP 100 Metal Bands of All Time show for instance.

But it seems good to me so far.

Jani Lane's comment is the highlight of what I have seen so far.
Mustaine's comment about L.A. having a LOT of crazy people was good too.

I am DVRing all of them and will watch 1-4 this weekend.

I watched the final 2 installments last night.

The one that focused on hair metal...heard it all before. Jani Lane's comments about Cherry Pie...wow. Quiet Riot not wanting to record Cum On Feel the Noize...I hated that song.

I really wish they would have talked more about Anthrax's rap metal contributions. I wish they would have talked more about Slayer, Megadeth, and thrash in general, especially the SF Bay Area. Insanely great music that was the polar opposite of gay ass LA metal was being created at the exact same time and made a huge impact. And the show pretty much ignored it.

Did anyone see Slayer playing in that basement? Kerry played a BCR Stealth with stringers and Hannemann played a black Bich.

I was really hoping to see King Diamond

Good show, but they didn't even touch on death metal.

Nor - I agree, a great documentary so far. Part 4 is tonight but there was no preview of it at the end of 3. I'm guessing it's going to cover the thrash stuff - Metallica, Megadeth, etc. and maybe lead into the 90s - Pantera, nu-metal, etc.
I second that, actually without these bands metal would not be where it was. They were great bands back in the day, life was about partying, having fun and chicks!!!!! If you didnt like hair metal so be it, but dont put it down because those bands did what alot of us dreamed we could do.

PS for those wondering, I loved it all, hair metal, hard metal, i am still the same way, can never get enough of music, anything and everything i can get my hands on.

So far I have thought it was a good series, havent seen the hair bands part or the Megadeth/Slayer/metallica parts yet.

On a side note if the guitar riffs & solos kick ass, then in all likely hood I'll like it. To this day I still like Ratt, earlier motley Crue, Poison, Dokken, Etc, & I still like Megadeth (goes w/out saying)/earlier Metallica/Maiden/Priest?earlier Ozzy, Etc. & I agree that these bands & musicians helped forge the music we know as metal.
Everything runs its course, how many people that jumped on the Alt/Grunge/Nirvana kick in '91 are now saying man what the hell were we thinking. Remember nirvana made it big & all of a sudden every Grunge/Alt band out started getting some record deals. Eventually it was overkill & the scene lost steam & on to the next scene we go. Now finally the Rap/metal scene came & went.
& apparently it's cool to shred again.

Personally I think Maiden made the right choice in going w/ Dickinson.
