Guys,
Am I correct in thinking that he uses his neck single coil to pull off those magnificent solos in Kings latest (puppetmaster) album? He's been using Caparison lately which has a humbucker in bridge and a single coil in neck.

nah, I think it's his old 8200 vavlestate that sounds that way..they have a bit of a shrilly bite to them..like my JMP-1, they can be very lively sounding..great "squeals"..or "Pings" as Zakk calls them..

Glen Drover swears by them..I'm sure Glen tried quite a few rigs in his time..including John's..

Go with what the master goes with ..Dimarzio HS3s or whatever Yngwie uses...works for him!!

someone else may elaborate on exactly what pups YJM uses..

i saw the puppet master tour and stayed and watched them break down the amps (behind the stage set and props) Andy is currently using a marshall AVT 150 head. - yeah i couldn't beleive it either.
he mainly uses his front pup for clean parts and bridge for distortion parts.

So, what's good for neoclassical type solos (in terms of pickups and their position).

bridge for edgy-er sounds and neck for rounder sounds. - its all taste. you might have a solo where you want some fluty sounding fast sweeps up on the neck pup and then switch to the bridge for some edgy melodies with squeels. its all personal taste.

After Yngwie the neo-classical gear seems to be a regular strat. You can go the extra mile and put in noise free pickups like Dimarzio HS3s but you know what man, it's not the gear it's how you play.
