That's one of my favorite VH solos..I read that Ed listened to a lot of Alan Holdsworth when he did that...you could hear it in that fast legato run!!

Fast legato runs are my life!!!

That solo just has everything, the legato runs, the tapped harmonics, the Holdsworth-esque phrasing, the tone. It is just a masterpiece, a fucking masterpiece. I am not a huge fan fan of Eddie's solos. Even though he is my favorite guitar player, it is his riffs and rhythms that do it for me. However, this solo just gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

I have been contemplating sitting down to learn this one for a long time, but it is not a solo for amateur hour guys like myself.

        Mike
Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Well, I'm sure you can do it..get a tab for it and get to it.

I never learn other's solos..I have a hard enough time playing my own.

I think the solo to "Beat it" is kick ass..

I'm with Mike - never been a huge fan of Eddie's solos either. But Push Comes to Shove is a classic. As is Beat It. I love the tap harmonic-slide build up at the start.

hey, in all the years that we've be posting these "fave solos" lists, I think I'm the only one that has ever nominated Yng's Soldier Without Faith solo. Am I alone in thinking it's a kickarse piece of playing? I think that solo has everything - melody, tension & build up, slow bits, fast bits, and works as a song within a song. The only thing I don't like about it is the way it comes out of the solo - there's a kind of distinct ending to it before the song recommences, and I usual prefer when a solo seemlessly returns to the song.

Jimi - Refrain at end of "Bold as Love"

Jimi - Beginning of "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" after he finishes with the wah.

EVH - Intro to "Mean Streets" - can't turn it up loud enough. Stereo ought to explode at end of intro.

              Page - "Dazed and Confused"

Brian May - "We Will Rock You"

Some of my very favorite guitar playing..this sounds weird..but I love the tone, feel and vibe of Steve Stevens solos on Vince Neil's first solo "Exposed"..the playing on that kicks my fucking ass and I love it, it still makes me smile today!

Especially "set me free" and.."look in her eyes"..and "the edge"..

oh fuck yeah Bill, Look In Her Eyes is one of the most genius solos ever made, Vince probaly gave him free hands, and he obiously exploded because with Billy Idol or Michael Jackson he couldn't shred as much as he wanted, with Vince he got his chance

I still haven't heard that record. I wanted to download it from iTunes, but they don't have it. It is not exactly in stores either. I keep hearing Bill say how great the guitar work was...and I want to hear it.

Here is another of my favorites:

The Edge-"New Year's Day". Laugh if you want, it is a killer solo.

I love the first part of the solo when Steve uses Japanese traditional music scale, I often play that lick for friends.
