It's funny how several people mentioned Dan Huff, yet I remember Dave Mustaine being pissed at not only Dan's production skills, but his guitar work as well. For someone so bad, he sure did produce a great CD called Cryptic Writings.
Speaking of Mustaine, he's been recording a lot in Nashville. I'm pretty sure he just recorded some shit at Blackbird Studios owned by Mr. and Mrs. Martina McBride.
Dan Huff is the #1 go to producer in nashville and Mustaine has recorded in nashville at various studios. Sound Stage and here
Endbat, I'm amazed you know Tommy girvin, I know him fairly well. he grew up with one of my best pals out here. I've hung out and jammed with him a couple of times.
all the world's greatest country, country-rock and country-pop is born in Nashville. I'm not talkin' about the old cowboy tunes, Willie Nelson or Dolly Parton. I'm talkin' about high quality pop and rock music wich roots are from country. Sheryl Crow is the best example.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers this band. Absolutely awesome.
I was floored when I saw his name on Clint Black's CD a while back. Listen to the guitar solos on "We Tell Ourselves". The guy makes me sick. But in a good way.
Strange you mentioned that list of names... I just saw Robben Ford and he had Mike Landau playing with him. Mike Landua took just as many solos as Robben did and sounded great. The whole time I was wondering "who the heck is this guy?"
I love session players! They not only play way above our heads, but it fits the song and the tone works!
The last Megadeth record was amazing due in no smal part to Vinnie playing drums. I've spent so much time listening to that over and ovr again just to pay attention to the drums. He's playing metal but not the typical metal licks and tricks you usually hear in metal.
Oh, Greg How's a pretty amazing session guy.
I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine. - Ayn Rand
I listened to Colaiuta's drumming on the Megadeth album, he did well. I liked his drumming even better when I saw him with Jeff Beck some weeks ago.
I liked Narada Michael Walden's playing when he was still a session player in the 70's. And Max Middleton is a great keyboard player who also did play with Jeff Beck and for Chris Rea, Kate Bush, Mick Taylor and Snowy White.
Most of these players mentioned are absolutely fantastic.
What I hate about the current pop/country/rock stuff coming out of Nashville is how over produced and sterile sounding most of the recordings are. There are monster players there but alot of it is lost to me because I can't stand the songs...especially the production. It reminds me of what happened to metal in the late 80's...lame production and homogenized playing made it uninteresting and boring.
