  • Steel Attack and Gaia Epicus?

Anyone familiar with either of these bands? They're playing at Minneapolis Mayhem on Friday (my band plays Saturday), and I'm providing guitars and basses for them from my own secret J/C stash. Just want to find out in advance if I'm enabling any abject wankery, flogging, or other questionable behavior.

You know I got the goods..

Got both very good power metal..their latest "Diabolic Symphony" is SA's best one so far..they really matured with each release..their second best was the one before "Enslaved"..that's when they seemed to get their shit together..the three before that are OK..

GE..is cool..I haven't put it on much since I git it..not that's bad..just that I haven't the time to get to it..I have too much stuff..I'm always buying more shit before opening and listening to the stuff I already have.

I'm really into Persuader and Savage Circus latey..is you like classic Blind Gaurdian..it's like that on steriods..same singer.

I've listened to Steel Attack's Diabolic Symphony quite a bit. It's got some great guitar work imho.

As you're listening to the UE album, just think "low-budget" and you won't be disappointed...much. That's what gets me through. If I had the money to master and press the original version, I would. Greek "mastering house" my ass. What a hack.

On a reasonably positive note, I got the guitars restrung and tuned down without complication. I'm so used to playing standard tuning with my trem blocked that I was expecting the worst. In the end, I think that was the fastest restringing and Floyd setup I've *ever* done.

We are our worst critics..I'll give ya the straight dope man. I listen to everything..I'm sure UE will make me smile. I'll keep your words in mind tho..good music will bleed thru ANY production flaws..

I posted my tape recorder 4 trk demo..it sounds like complete ass..but people liked the writing..so that made me very happy and surprised..

I need to do that stuff right..in a studio. .

I've got it all planned out. Show up early on Friday to get the guitars backstage for the crazy Europeans, then plant my butt in front of the stage for my local friends in Cold Colours followed by Mike and Division. Saturday will be a bit rough because we have to arrive before 11AM for load-in and merch setup, and then wait for 2-3 hours. The good news is that we are the only band to get a soundcheck, being that we're first.

I'm a bit nervous, mostly because we will be playing a brand new song that our vocalist has only rehearsed once with the band due to taking a job out of town. He has a rough demo of it to practice along with, and I've worked with him on the phrasing, but it's a bit on the "wordy" side. Not that anyone can understand, unless they have an English-to-Cookie dictionary.

Heh, something tells me that this is a different Cold Colours. These guys are like Projector-era Dark Tranquillity meets Paradise Lost with a little Sentenced thrown in. I almost ended up playing lead guitar for them in 2000 before starting Under Eden, but they went on hiatus. They recorded at the same studio as us for their latest full-length. My wife went to high school with their drummer, and a couple of them played in another local band, Epicurean.

I wish we had some MP3s of the new stuff. Heavier, with a darker vibe. No more flowers and baby bunnies for us!
