Glad to see a fellow Bodom fan. . I have an effect called a "Ring Mod" it sounds very similar to that. (it's on my ZOOM GFX-1)

I like that video but they focus too much on Alexi in it.
It could be some kind of midi but I don't think it is. A midi pickup would let your guitar sound like a violin/piano/sax

Yeah sounds like a ring Mod..one or two octaves up..a hamonizer..

Herman Li can't turn his off..I think the button is broke..

now Uli Jon Roth is a good player, he makes his guitar sound like a violin without any effects.

found two pedals that might do it! any one have any experience with the boss OC-3 octave pedal? or would the PS-5 super shifter be more towards the sound that roopes getting? the super shifter says it can do harmonies and all sorts of crazy shit

They're playing with a backing track. The "violin" is just crappy midi, and is not Roope's guitar.

That doesn't sound like a ring modulator to me... those things always sound like crazy UFOs flying around.

                        Exactly.

I took a closer look at that vid a couple of times and noticed that the violin sound doesn't follow Roope's playing. It's the backing track.
You can also hear Roope, he's just more in the background.

You can get that violin tone using a Roland VG88.
