A bit eccentric.. who knows..maybe he was joking when he said it was his metal pick and all this is being taken out of context or was said for publicity. I must say.. he is putting all 'his' feeling into those clips. He still sounds like Ed.
Some interesting feedback and harmonic stuff... its very fluid..but.. Sustainer system meets Mr floyd is his gig on this.

My, how quickly we turn off our heros of yesteryear.

It seems like yesterday EVH had talent on loan from GGGIIIOOODDD.

Don't worry Ed, I'll always be here for ya, no matter what these jackals say....

            actually it's the opposite.

I did not turn him off, he turned me off with his lame behavior and crappy music over the past 10 yrs.

What was he doing with his metal picks that they gave him mouth cancer? Eating them?

I guess it's possible that holding a metal pick in his mouth while tapping all these years could have caused cancer. Definitely has nothing to do with the fact he chain smokes and drinks his face off every day though.

Either way, he's become way to dependant on that sustainer... shut it off already!!

                  +1

He's getting like Kirk and the wah pedal.

Yeah that sustainer thing is a bit too much right. When i saw VH a few yrs ago his solo was based around the thing. He flipped it on and set the headstoickof the guitar on the stage and made it seem like it was making it sustain longer than normal. LOL yeah nice try Ed. Go back to the tasteful use of effects and not go over board like Kirk Hamster does with his wah.

I think people like to make themselves feel better because they actually just might think that they have now surpassed their old hero because they are not in bad health, and have their act together, career, assets, etc. etc. etc.
I have a secret, he still smokes all of us in every facet of guitar playing, even if you can play every lick he's ever pulled out of his bag of tricks, gotten his sound down through hot rodded marshall heads, the right guitars, etc. Nobody wants anyone on this board to sign a six year record deal with Stadium tour to boot. So even at his lamest, Eddie has everyone still grossly beat no matter what his teeth in mouth expectancy may be-lol With Roth, he still has everyone beat, with Hagar, it's just more secondary, ball-less music once again. Hook up with Roth and watch those two knock us the fukk out one more time with a raging album that will have the Van Halen boom in all of it's beauty. It's a fact if Roth comes back, the tunes change, the band changes, and the crowd fills back up with the both halves filled with cool loonies once again.

He always will be an icon of guitar no matter what any of us or anyone anywhere else in the music universe of this planet thinks.. its been cemented in stone, vinyl, print and covers of every major guitar mag since '78.

Nah, no one is doubting or attacking his ability to still play and write.
Many are amazed at his actions thus whats in question or seems to be a continuious jab at, is his "character".

Yep, I agree musically, if he gets back with Roth it will rock, but, I don't know if Roth's voice is up to it these days. Roth as a vocalist isn't sounding all that great.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

"Anyone who tries to fling crap my way better have a really good crap flinger."

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Yes, there's a bee in the pudding.

This seems sort of similiar to Elvis. People forgot what he did and totally focused on what he was currently doing (or eating). LOL

I for one am a bit p.o'd that eddie wastes all his potential. Cosidering his skill and creativity wouldn't have hit a plateau had he stayed focused imagine what he could be doing for the guitar world in general!

I think really that great musicians generally burn out and everything catches up with them (age, bad habits, self-abuse, drugs, treating other people like shit) and it turns into what Eddie is now.

this has happened with many greats, Schenker is notorious for being a fuckup and is embroiled in at least two alimony fights after pissing away all his money (what he had of it), Eddie hates all his VH band members except for his brother and does porn soundtracks looking like a bum, Lynch goes rap with Smoke This and now wants people to pay online to be in his imaginary guitar dojo, it seems to happen to many.

we all seem to think that if they just did this or that differently (the way we wanted them to) then everything would be peachy and they'd be continuing to break new ground with more amazing music, but the evidence of their lives incontroverably shows that is not possible for them.

there are great and inspirational guitarists, but there aren't any heroes.
