First of all the stage performance of DLR was the baddest. The best frontman ever!!!
The tunes were simply better. All the hooks and riffs were so memoriable.
With Hagar, the songs weren't as good anymore and they focused a lot on producing, arranging etc. etc. wich isn't a bad thing at all. But I loved the simplicity of classic Van Halen, their songs sounded like cool jams, they were like old ZZ Top
"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
"To be stupid, selfish and have good health are three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, all is lost" - Gustave Flaubert
probably the best DLR impression i've heard. Kickass tributes. The whole band is pretty much spot on.
Yeah Rich actually auditioned for Van Halen.."Too much like Roth"..
Search for the VH tribute page about The Atomic Puds..It's all on that..

I would chose DLR over Hagar by far, but I still dug the Hagar tunes. When I heard they were getting Gary Cherone, I thought the matchup was gonna rock till I heard that crap that came out of Gary's mouth. I have heard cat fights that sounded better.
So many of you guys make the assumption that Sammy changed Ed's songwriting, playing style, and fire. Eddie changed Eddie. If you don't like the Sammy era, that's not Sammy's fault. It's Eddie's.
I'm not saying that Sammy didn't influence the whole group in a different direction. But Ed is - and always will be! - in control of his own destiny. If you think the Van Hagar era sucked, it's because you think Ed's playing in that era sucked. Don't blame Sammy for that.
Sure, I waaaayyyy prefer early VH to Van Hagar. But that's because Ed's playing was different then. There's a lot of cool stuff with Sammy too, though. And both beat either having no Van Halen or Van Lame'n.
I don't know Billy me boy, my band was definitely a ripoff of Van Halen, I think it's still posted on Shawn Lutz site, and it was recordeed through an old tape recorder that was placed in the middle of the studio. Somehow it came out to be just about listenable. no tracks , punch ins, overdubs, etc. just high head blues and wailing our own originals. If we only had a better singer. I think we may have given you guys a run for the money on who's ripping off VH the most-lol
Im sorry but there is a noticable difference in VH style with sammy and with roth.Hagar did change van halen because he is a different writer than and singer than roth.to say he didnt change VH is just not true.Although eddie is truely the one responsoble for his destiny. Not to say he changed them for the worst. But VH material with sammy is in no way comparable to thr Roth era.listen to everything they did woth Hager(with exception of Humans being) and then listen to the 2 new songs on the GHvolume 1 and tell me that hagar didnt change VH.Eddie seems to open up as a guitar player around roth.
