I want one because it looks badass and It's a Fender, I'm a fan of Fenders. I hope it sounds good too

HIS design? It's a takeoff on Soldano's design, but they couldn't pay Ed enough so he had Peavey make him an amp that he hoped would sound like an SLO 100. It didn't quite turn out that way, but still, Ed didn't really design that amp. He just has a copyright on the number 5150 and the name and body shape Wolfgang.

Wonder when the Fender Wolfgang's coming out?

I'm sure Ed had a lot of do with designing the 5150, Ed is Ed but I never have doubts on his engineering/designing skills.

Is Ritchie Fliegler (?sp) still with Fender? If so, this may be closer to a Marshall than a Soldano. Ritchie was the main guy for Marshall back in the day, and knows a thing or two about amp design.....

I have it on really good authority that it was designed and engineered outside of Fender, don't know by who but I have a strong suspicion.

Fender is strictly manufacturer and distributor.

That's a good question! I don't see it changing much, non of the other Fender models have changed that much since introduced so I could see this becoming the exact thign as the Peavey with the Fender logo on it.

Brent - would this be a recognized name in the amp mod world?
Since it is a suspicion, can you share who you think it might be?

at the risk of starting a internet fairy tale -

                      first my disclaimer:
THIS JUST SPECULATION, NO BASIS IN FACT or RUMOUR
In addition to the Fender aspects of the look it has a Soldano/Mojave look to it, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mike Soldano had input into this circuit as he has connected with large companies before (Yamaha).
                      again my disclaimer:
THIS JUST SPECULATION, NO BASIS IN FACT or RUMOUR

To me Fender needs it to be a big name, they have a pretty bad track record in the hi-gain amp world, EVH and a big boutique name would give them some credibility.

Fliegler is still at Fender but he is a marketing guy, more product specialist than engineer/designer

I'm willing to bet you'll see this called a Soldano on the internet somewhere before the end of the day

hahahaha.. no - was just curious to your opinion (yep - solely an opinion/specultaion)...
And you are probably right - someone somewhere will say "I saw it posted on another board"...
jst wondering what these will be like, though I really shouldn't support Ed...

The first thing I thought of was Soldano when I saw it.

Years ago before the 5150 came out I was backstage at a Van Halen concert during load in and set up. There were two amp racks with three heads each in it ( I assume ). One had 2 Solodanos and a un-branded head ( maybe 5150 proto ) the other case still had the cover on it. I asked one of the guys hooking up cables what the deal was. His response was "He has been using them for years". I assume he was eddie. I had heard the stories of his fav marshall falling apart so it made some sense.

                          My 2 cents

I hear Ed twists a few knobs before photos so know one can steel his settings... :ROTF:

there was an article in a Guitar world (where Eddie is holding a purple EBMM EVH on the cover) - in the main article, they do a profile on his tech... he talks about the Soldano being used back then, and that Eddie had wanted the 5150 to combine the Marshall feel with the Soldano tone. I think it was during the 5150 sessions??

I can't remember if I was at the 5150 tour or the next one. I need to go dig out my old backstage passes.
