I think it was during the 5150 sessions??
That would have been for the F.U.C.K album. That album was a mix of mostly the Soldano, then the old Marshall and a 5150 prototype on a couple of tunes. Wasn't the 1st year of the EBMM 1991?

I just hope that out of three channels...one will have a "true" Van Halen voice. Despite the fact that I am a complete Ed fanatic, I always thought the 5150 tone blew.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Yes, I had FIVE 5150s..never sounded like VH to me..

It's a good "metal" amp tho..

This thing will prolly sound like a 5150 at best..just shoved into a different box..that's my guess..

                Sorry, I'm so cynical..

Make that +2. Never liked the 5150/6505 tone. Actually like the Valveking better.

                            not for metal

there is one guy who used a 5150 and actually nailed the older VH tone with it here it is

and here is others with the 5150

I have no clue what he was doing there, but Suhr told me (this was around 2003) he was doing work for Eddie and he checked out Eddies Frankenstein guitar. He said he could make me a pick-up that was almost identical to his "frankie" p/u. Suhr said the pick-up was actually broken all of these years and one of the coils was almost dead. So EVH's humbucker was inbetween a single coil and a humbucker. Real low output...

it is easy to get the vh tone with a 5150, lower the gain, use a cab loaded with 75's and you are 90% there, the rest is in his fingers and of course you will never get the complete brown sound unless you use a variac and some pedals
