Well I doubt I'll be winning any guitar contests, but I can definitely play, and I'm not into Dragonforce at all. Sure, they seem to be able to play fast arps and whatnot, but that "Betcha can't play this" video is so bad it makes me wonder if their studio stuff is doctored ala Vinnie Vincent Because they play a meedly style of music, they are begging to be lumped in with bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc... and they aren't even close to that level.

Sweep picking is not really my thing, but I can play that arpeggio cleaner than that. The tapping thing was... well... not good.

They are pros, and being drunk is no excuse. If you have that kind of "status" at least take is seriously, do something interesting, and execute it well. Most of those "Betcha can't play this" vids showcase insane stuff.

These guys were likely obligated to be there, got there fucked up and went through with it due to lack of better judgement, because they were fucked up. didn't the guy even say himself that it was sloppy?

Endrik, I don't buy your "you don't have to be a cook" analogy. On this board we ARE representing ourselves as "cooks", and I also feel I shouldn't knock someone if I can't do better. Those guys are playing mus9ic for a living; it's their lives. Can you say the same? Do you know what the previous 24 hours held for them?

The video is a pisspoor example of their playing, but many people have seen them live and they delivered the goods. The greatest player on earth can sound like a hack when he's drunk and/or loaded. Fuck, Alexi has been seen to be sloppy live on occasion but nobody tries to say he can't play. Many don't like him but they don't say he can't play.

I'm not a big Dragonforce fan, but this willingness to jump on players and say they suck, the DESIRE to find a sucky example, is like the worst of the 80s competitive attitude of shred. Why not just dig the fact that bands who want to shred are gaining notice again? You'd think we'd have learned something about teamwork from the way this stuff died out the first time around. They shred, root for them even if you don't directly like them. They're not taking the place of another band that you like, it's more like a new high tide's rolling in and hopefully many boats will float!

I'm just saying that their music sucks and never will give props to anyone who plays shity music and his style of playing isn't my cup of tea even if he can play well. I'm not obligied to appriciate what I don't like. That's my point. I don't want people telling me or anyone else what to do/listen/like/appriciate/whatever.
