Rich, all I can say is that the chemistry between different nations in Europe and specially in Eastern Europe is anything but warm. Politically everything may seem to be ok here because of the whole happy EU crap, but the conflicts in personal level are very real. You just have to live hear to understand it, it's pretty ridiculous. And It's everywhere.

Endrik, I realize that, I just never heard that Slovenes and Croats in particular didn't get along. I sort of figured everyone there just hated Serbia since it dominated the rest. Of course, Slovenia is the smallest of the former Yugoslav states so I guess they got stepped on by the others too. It's not easy to be the runt!

No one says you have to like a band, I thought my death and black example displayed that. I still believe that solidarity in metal would be better than picking itself apart. In the 80s it was the king of popular music, now it's on the fringes even in Europe where it supposedly never died. Sure you have some festivals, we have a few now too since things are coming back.

I still think it's stupid though, to get hyped up about how a band sucks to you. Did they fuck your woman or steal your guitar? If not, then STFU.
No one's forcing you to buy the CD or go to the show. It's childish to hate on a band just because you don't dig their music.

Nirvana wrote some cool songs. I don't think they killed metal as some do. I think metal was killed by fan infighting more. Hair band fans thought thrash sucked and vice-versa, and wouldn't look at each others' music.

Look at most of those grunge bands and you'll find that they were hair bands in the mid-80s. They went where the wind blew.

Saw Dragonforce this weekend, not a real impressive band. Lots of botched meedley meedley, and really crap ass tone. Disappointing really, I was looking foward to them. Children of Bodom were much better.

Still, a very talented band whether you dig their style or not..I'm glad that people are appreciating the art of shred, and these dudes seem to be having genuine fun with it..

so what's complaint about really..

compared to 15 years of kids making fart noises in their hands, scratching records, and acting like retarded chimps..and not hearing a single guitar solo in the mainstream since 1991..

Us "guitarists" should be pretty fuggin' thrilled about it all..either thrilled, jealous or dumb...I'd say one those applies..

I for for one am thrilled that shred came back..look at any GW mag from four years ago, and look at one today..what a huge difference a few years can make..wouldn't you say??!!
