    that one's a killer!!

    as far as DF...
it's cool to see shred in the mainstream.. it's cool to see kids liking them and picking up guitar, but i cant bring myself to listen to those clowns, since on a personal level, their music BLOWS CHUNKS! i got enough other records that deserve playing.
i'd also like to hear them play as dry as possible. no whammy, no compressor, no harmoniser, etc etc etc etc.

imo, in the studio it's a bit harder to play it good than live.. sure, you got some more time to play the solo and can do it in multiple takes.
live it's a tad easier, since you just go batshit in the key of E, Aminor/Cmajor (which is all they do anyway) and hit every note at lightning speed. why?
A: you're bound to hit the right ones
B: nobody will be able to tell the wrong ones from the right ones since it will all be a flurry....

    just like petrucci

    (this was a joke btw)
You can't play no muthfuggin' arpeggios on a tuba...

Guys..for my personal tatste in metal, Dragonforce is a much too "upbeat" and happy for my liking..but I gotta give props to these young dudes..for puttin' out the shred and making kids take notice..and helping giving them the inspiration to care about guitars again..

I agree about "better" bands to listen to..I have them ALL..believe me, 5000+ metal cd worth and constantly growing fast....but it depends.. if the helloween school of metal is your thing..It's not my favorite, but I can dig it..because it's genuine and challenging..

I agree about that fuggin' harmonizer Li uses tho..it makes everything sound the same ..but that dude can play..he can do withoput that damn thing tho IMO..

My favorite shit..personally is Nevermore...Arch Enemy, AT the Gates, Coroner, Carcass, Dark Tranquility, Hypocrysy, Deeth, Kreator, Control Denied..Technical death stuff like Symbyosis, Theory in Practice, Cynic, Farmakon, Atheist and stuff like Watchtower, Zero Hour..and I love any great thrash be it swedish ala Soilwork, older In flames, Dimension zero, The Haunted, Darkane, Terror 2000 or american thrash Forbidden, Testament, Exodus, Overkill , Annihilator, Heathen....ect

I love prog dark metal like Pagans Mind, and Eidolon , Lanfear..Opeth..Edge of Sanity and etc..

I do dig alot of bands from the Maiden / Helloween school too like Rhapsody, Nocturnal Rites, Angra, Gamma Ray, Iron Savior, Blind Guardian and so on..even the ever cheesy Manowar had their moments....

I like COB, Imperanon, Kalmah, Skyfire, Mors Principium est, Omnium Gatherum, Gardenian..eternal tears of Sorrow and so much more

I like lighter stuff such as Jorne, Masterplan, Millenium, Starbreaker, Last Tribe..Pain of Salvation..The Gathering..and etc..

all the bands I'm throwing out all have one thing in common ..Talented muscianship, virtuocity, and their own unique writing styles

Whatever metal you like..and I like it all, as long as it is quality playing/writing and done well..it ALL has the cheese factor..that unavoidable in metal..because it's an escape..be it Satan, Dungeons and dragons, Vikings, Blood and gore..think of it..Metal and cheese go hand in hand..ever since Black Sabbath..it' just part of the deal..it just depends what kind of cheese you prefer..swiss or american..maybe coby or sharp cheddar

usually black and death metal dudes think prog and power metal is gay and visa versa..I think that's dumb..because I'd rather listen to a good black metal band that a crappy prog metal band..and a good power metal band than a crappy death metal band..

As a guiatrist who loves to write my own music..I like any band that has some sort of musical value that can inspire my own creativity, something to draw from..even if the vocals suck or the lyrics are gay..if the riff kicks ass..it immediately gets my attention..and if all the other factors in the band kick ass as well then that's a plus..

I can take a steal a few Dragonforce riffs and put my own spin on it and have my singer kick it in the ass..and you wouldn't any idea it was inspired by Dragonforce..I do that shit all the time..

we all steal from each other..we just put our spin on the the things we love and influence us..whenever we write something..you always have a particuliar band or riff in mind usually..but your just doing it your way..

I think there is value in all quality metal no matter style it may be..real metal..not that mainstream cookie cutter crap that is promoted to death and called "metal"..for the last decade or so.. that consist of no guitar solo, a three chords and the same kind of gay formula..especially anything with a "DJ" in the mix..metal don't have "DJs" ..period..

Metal for me has to have these elements..the almighty groove to bang your head to..double kicks to kick you in the nads, catchy hooks that stick in your head immediately, dymanics, some complexity, virtuocity but yet cohesive to enjoy..I love Lamb Of God musically but that singer is so one diemensional and grates on my nerves after 15 minutes...and the icing on the cake was always the killer guitar solo..

Dragonforce has the fire but not that angst and rebellion that I love so much and write like myself..but that's cool..if all metal band wrote like that..it would be pretty boring and all bands would sound exactly alike..

metal is cool like that..there is so may styles to choose from..if you don't care for Dragonforce, there's always dragonlord..if you want something melodic but heavy with awesome guitars..nevermore, Iced Earth, Brainstrom, Symphorce, Communic..should do peachy..if you like symphonic metal Dragonforce should make you happy, along with Rhasody, Kamelot, and Sonata Artica, Dragonland, Dreamtale along with Stratovarius..

Metal ahs never been better..if you still prefer the sound of 80's metal there is so many new AOR band especially on frontiers label that should make you happy, with bands that sounds like skid row, dokken and ratt....along with neo classical stuff like Firewind, Narnia, Magic Kingdom, Reign of terror and all the yngwie clones you could ask for..

metal has never been do diverse or abundant..there is so many great bands out there..as much as I have..it's a bitch trying to catch up..

If you desire something evil or brtual..the new deicide delivers.., as does Vital Remanins, Bloodbath, or Krisiun.. and etc..

I can't waite to hear the new Vicious Rumors with Brad Gillis and James Rivera..that should be interesting!

All Hail metal..you guys should be rejoicing that we have our music back after all these years..

I find most people who bust on shred guiatar can't play shred to save their life..has anyone else ever observe this..people bust on stuff they can't do..it's easy justification for them. I personally know and met these guys..the dudes that bust on shredinng are some of the lamest, most boring players I've ever heard.. and that's the honest truth..in my experience.

OK, I said enough here without beating a dead horse into a mushy pulp..

That's what I say..and nobody can tell me otherwise..
