    I know..

I love you tho..Val was stuck there too for a while..now she's like a maniac..

I can't even listen to "clean" vocals in the fuggin' car..not even JORN...anything "clean" she think sounds "old and gay" her words..I'm, not kidding!!

5 years ago I could NOT listen to any harsh vocals in the car without her bitching..not even Pantera..

I created a monster..she took to it with my band and actualy watched and saw us practice all the time...She's really like Ty's voice a lot ..he can do both very well..I think that opened her eyes and ears to it..that's exactly when it clicked.

Her favorite band right now is Arch Enemy..she's actually making ME sick of it..so now I listen to Jorn and she listens to Lamb Of God , Arch Enemy, COB and all the stuff I couldn't play in the fuggin' car!!

    That's weird..

I was like that too..I did't like dirty vocals..not until I discovered Coroner..Coroner was the beginning of the end for me really..

I couldn't listen to harsh vocals either. Even Chuck Billy grated on me at times. Machine Head & Nevermore was about as heavy as I would go, vocally.

But then I heard Lamb of God, and those two guitarists were grooving so hard, I had to force myself to deal with the vocals just so I could enjoy the awesome guitars. And Opeth's Windowpane, and I had to buy that album. When I bought my next Opeth album, I found that I quite liked how Akerfeldt balanced the harsh & the clean. I bought a bunch more Opeth. And then Coroner's Mental Vortex.

So the dirty vox no longer seemed to be an overriding factor.

I'm still very selective in what I like in harsh vocals though. Napalm Death still make me giggle because it seems so ridiculous. I can't listen to Black Metal. It holds absolutely no appeal for me, primarily because of the vox, but just as much because musically it does nothing for me. The harsh vox stuff I do listen to works for me musically first, and I either learn to like the vox or shut them out.

Dude, that's amazing..I could have wrote that exact post myself..Yeah, I was bummed when Chuck Billy went full blown growl with "Low"..comapared to what he did all the way up to '92's "Ritual" albulm..skolnick's last..It still sounds like him, just much harsher and pissed..but I didn't like it at that time..stupid me!

I love Chuck Billy's voice better than ever now ..the older stuff sounds pretty sedate in comparison..

Perfect example dude..I loved tunes like Elecric Crown..so did my wife..but when "Low" came out we hated it..it was like WTF happend to his voice ..I didn't "get it"..now I do..it's not "shot"..it's BETTER..he just kicked it up a few notches..

Coroner's Mental Vortex, No more Color and Grin..grabbed me like a fucker..that opened the doors to extreme music for me..Mental Vortex is awesome..one of my fave top 20 of all time.."Son of Lilith" is my fave off that one..I go for that kind of tone now, and Tommy V. "TT Baron" is one of my favorite players..I actually have a song called "Inherit the week" that sound like both Coroner meets Testament..because that's what I was listening to that time..I wrote the main riff when the Gathering just came out..in '98.

Gary, we are on the same page!!!!

Gary..metal/shred never "died" did it?..while everyone was listening to the same old records Ratt, Dokken, Rough Cutt, Loudness, Racer X and VH and over and over and over again..there was a bunch of amazing bands still coming out ..but nobody knew about them because they wern't promoted or "cool"..in fact I knew shredders that were EMBARASSED to shred..because it was "gay"..I knew these guys..that's selling out..that's not dedication..that's worrying about what others think of you instead of playing from your heart. I used to ask this one local dude at a music store to shred, he was really good..but he wore sweaters now and kept saying "Dude, I don't play that crap anymore"..but I insisted..so he had to look over his shoulder to make certain nobody was in the storw to do a sweep arpeggio..now that's NOT staying true..all those hours of woodshedding to master that shit ..but "embarassed" to play it..WTF is that!!!???

That's OK..because those players kicked my ass at the time..so why they were busy doing what was popular..I was shredding...so fuggum..because shred is back and I'm on my game!

OK Gary.., to get back on track..how do you feel about Jorn..do you think he can "keep up" with Baz ???..:ROTF:
