I saw Jorn live some years ago, during the "Worldchanger" tour. Pagan's Mind was also playing that night, and a local band. Pagan's Mind wasn't that big yet and I honestly don't think everyone there that night knew who they were.. But once they started playing and they got to the solo-parts, everyone was looking at this short-haired guitarist with the MusicMan guitar. He was Jørn Viggo Lofstad. He may not have looked very "heavy", but man did his playing smoke! He tore the roof off! Made a big impact I'll tell you!
When Pagan's Mind had finished their set, there was a break, so most people went outside to smoke, drink, shag or whatever. I held on to my place, I was still blown away by Lofstad's awesome playing. After a while, Lofstad came back on the stage, and this time he was joined by none other than Hellhammer, of Mayhem, on the drums, and a bass-player whose name I really don't remember. Anyway, they started a jam. I don't think they were playing anything in particular, Hellhammer and the bassplayer held the beat and Jørn Viggo improvised something, it was pretty cool.
By now people had heard the music from the outside so they had started coming back inside. They were lining up in front of the stage cheering Lofstad and the guys on.
Suddenly, from the right side of the stage - WHOOSH - something came heading for the micstand full speed. We saw long hair flying and black leatherpants. Was it him?? It wasn't easy making something out at this speed.. Then he did a huge jump, grabbed the mic-stand mid-air, and cried this incredible roar, a warcry, a call to arms.. There was no doubt: Jørn Lande, JORN, was here! The crowd went wild man, it was awesome.
They played most (if not all, I can't remember) of the Worldchanger-songs, plus Kill the King, Still Of the Night and probably a couple of other Coverdale-tunes. I still have one word to describe it: Awesome, cause it made my hair stand in awe. I'll remember that night for as long as I live

                Jorn who?

I was listening to Out to Every Nation on my way to work yesterday. If "When Angels Wings Were White" is playing, I have to wait until it finishes. I love the arrangement, the starting out low, building up to a big vocal climax, the way it makes you think it's going one way before it darts off in another direction. Brilliant! It would be disrespectful to turn it off before it was done
                Hail yesterday

Hey Bill - I'm in Silent Shadows.. and we've been REAL silent since the singer left ! lol
Yep - I know Krusty - we played Powermad 2000 with them. That's also where I met Crooks and Blevins...
I've been one of the Progpower backline techs since PP2. Many cool dudes that attend, as well as play there. Lofstad is a REAL good player - Jeff Plate is a huge fan of his playing. And John MacAluso (ARK) is an awesome funny fu**er. Can't wait to hear his solo release... I think Vitalij Kuprij and James LaBrie are on it?

Speaking of ARK.. Does anyone know what Tore Østby is up to these days? Haven't heard from him for a while and I'm a huge fan of his playing, ever since the Conception days..

After the Conception Reunion at Progpower, he mentioned that they might be working on new stuff... but it has been kept REAL quiet if anything is actually going on. Otherwise, he writes, produces, and i think teaches?
I also think he did the tracks (or will be??) for the next DC Cooper solo CD
They had filmed the show with the intent of releasing it, but not sure what was going on with that, since lighting was less than ideal (which was corrected this year)

Jorn kicks ass, but my favorite is still Ray Alder from Fates Warning. Now, if he would just start hitting those real high notes again like he used to on the No Exit album...

Check them out - there is sample on their site (just metacrawler or google Redemption). Sounds like Ray is using most of his range ... if you like it, they will be playing in Sept in Atlanta... with a few other real good bands (most not announced yet)

Okay, just found their site. Listening to the MP3 of "Threads". I like it a lot! I gotta hit the local metal record store later or tomorrow and pick the cd up.
