He gets such an awesome tone on that video. I wish he would dust off that guitar and play it again.

Awesome.. One of my favorite players. Was he using EMG's back then? I'm usually sceptical towards EMG's, but then I hear guys like Steve Lukather, Reb Beach, Moore(?) etc, and it just sounds beautiful

the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

EMG sounds good only if some racks work their sound.
I don't like them 'cause they lose dynamic. They doesn't benefit the quality of the woods.
Anyway there is no EMG sound in that Charvie @ my hears....

I disagree about the EMG's. They sound alright plugged straight into an amp to me, and I'm not a real metalhead either. Gary didn't use a whole lot of rack stuff back then. that was pretty much a Marshall, Tubescreamer, and some echo with maybe a wee bit of chorus.

it's more the player than the pups IMO

I would agree with that. I can manage to sound crappy through just about anything.

Well, if he can get a decent tone from that little black abomination called EMG, can't imagine how GREAT he would have sounded if he'd played it with the Peter Green Les Paul he sold!

Now that was amazing. Id have to say that that clip right there had to have the most "feeling" playing wise that Ive ever heard. Simply awesome.

Ah, Greeney's Les Paul.. *gazes at the stars*
But Gary wasn't too happy with that deal after all, was he? If I remember correctly the guitar ended up at some guitar dealer or something? I don't know all the details but that was the last thing Gary wanted.

Phil Winfield from Maverick Music bought it, and now it's on sale for $ 2,000,000.
I think Gary wasn't happy about the publicity that the whole deal got, as well as the fact that the buyer is now re-selling it.
That guitar was exhibited at the last Dallas and Arlington vintage guitar shows, I missed both this year, but several people got a chance to play it!
