Why do people bust on Zakk about his stage persona? Its all part of the show. Musicians in major label acts have to do more than play. You have to have stage presence and a look as well. Without these ingredients, you won't last long. Actually, I doubt you would get signed without it... well unless you are Dream Theater
, but those guys are virtuosos so they can get away with it.
I'm sure all the haters, who dress in street clothes and stand in one spot while on stage with their cover bands (if they even gig), are wiser than someone who has been in the business and achieved as much success as Zakk has. The boy gets it, is successfull and sorry to say, can out play everybody on this forum.
Yes, the 357 thing is BS, but I highly doubt he was in the middle of that deal. Do you really think these artists that have a busy schedule of rehearsing, gigging, PR, etc... would know every detail of what's going on? Maybe they should but that is alot to ask and kinda unrealistic. That's why you hire managers, lawyers, etc... to manage the business aspect of your life.

My dislike of Zakk doesn't have much to do with anything besides he is boring. I went with 2 other friends to Ozzfest a few years back mainly to see Iron Maiden. I think we have to be the first people to volanteer(sp?) to fall asleep on purpose and under no intoxicants. I feel asleep to random whammy bar dives and woke up to what I thought was a dying cat screaming for help, but was actually still Zakk playing a guitar solo. Someone needs to post that video of him doing the national anthem at the hockey game and you will understand. I don't doubt his ability one bit, dude can play, but you can over-play too, and that shit gets old. Ozzy cancelled that night and Iron Maiden got an extended set, it was beyond amazing and I was very grateful. We also woke up with a signed In Flames post next to us, pretty random but funny. There was also a dude with a real eye patch clapping at girls in bikinis and yelling "that's what I'm talking about!" Good memories besides BLS.Comment

You could probably consider me a hatter. The band I am in now is starting to gig again on a regular basis(our keyboardist just beat cancer's ass.) We are a power metal band bassed off an original story our drummer has written/writing. We dress up in costumes and everything, epic intro's, flashy guitar stuff. I'm not trying to be a dick either, but I hate when people put down proven, pro musicians. Its one thing not to like what they do, but when people say they suck, it gets on my nerves.
Like him or not, the Ozzy "team" knows a good guitar player when they hear one. You don't get a gig like that (especially in the 80's when wanking was at its peak) if you suck at playing guitar. Most of the quirks people rip on are the ones that make Zakk unique and stand out in the endless sea of wankers out there. When you hear him play, you know its him... when you see him, you know its him. I would say he's doing something right.
By the way, I'm not really a big fan of his, but I do realize his talent. He was one of the few that carried the "guitar hero" torch throughout the 90's.Comment

BUT
I say this based on the fact that Zakk has had a 20 yr career built solely on his ability to play ("shred" if you will), write memorable songs that appeal to millions of people, sell instructional vidoes, etc... I don't know anyone here that has accomplished that, thus my statement.Comment

Seriously, talent and fame/success, unfortunately, don't always go hand in hand. Zakk is definitely a talented dude, but I don't find it impossible to believe that there are starving players that are better.Comment

I liked his solo spot at Ozzy's Live In Budokan DVD, it put a big smile on my face. The one in Boozed, Broozed and Broken Boned was more like a replay of it, only just not quite as good IMO.
