• VAIN

I was watching VH-1 Metal Classics last night and stumbled upon a video featuring one of the two guitar players with what looked like a sweet Soloist, dark sparkly blue. It was a hair band all the way but the solo was fairly tasty and this guy has a great tone and played with style.

The band was called Vain, anyone remember them?

Vain, I remember them. I only remember hearing and seeing the video for that one song "Beat The Bullet". That was a killer song!

good record; the video was more than likely beat the bullet or who's watchin you. it took me a bit to get used to davy's voice, but that was a good one. he's put out a few more discs, as well.

Yep, it was "Beat the Bullet"! Wasn't there a slo-mo bullet featured in that video, like 10 years before Korn did it?

Re: VAIN

It was "Who's Watching You", not "Beat the Bullet" and the guitar was not a Soloist, but it was a Jackson bolt-on. Very typical late 80's hum-single-single, I remember thinking that it was quite a plain jane guitar for a video. It also appeared to be some sort of purple heather type of finish. I tape each episode of Metal Mania, so that I can watch it at my leisure.

Vain was a San Francisco area band that released their first record "No Respect" in 1989. It is a highly underrated glam/sleaze record (if your into that kind of sound).
They had a 2nd record (All Those Strangers) done, but was never released as they were dropped from Island Records in 1991.
Davey Vain (singer) regrouped in 1993 to release "Move On It", which was released overseas.
"Fade" is the last album they released (1995),and was released in the U.S.

Vain circa 1989.

While "No Respect" was a kick-ass record, everything I have heard from them since has been at best, so-so.

Yep, it was "Who's watching you" with some uber-nazi looking hot chick watching them play on a TV, reminded me of the chick from BH Cop II.

Definitely a purple-ish tone to that gtr, couldn't tell exactly what it was but you're probably right that it was a bolt on.

Re: VAIN

I haven't seen the 'whos watching you' video in years (but I keep playing the intro riff!). I thought the guitar was a bolt-on dinky with a purple-ish irredescent swirl type finish with 1xhb and 1 s/c but like I said, it was years ago!.......

Re: VAIN

I've got all their stuff - they put out 3 albums, and Davy Vain, the singer, put out a solo cd (I don't recommend that one...). Interesting band with a cool vibe, but as with many, forgotten due to there being too many bands in that scene at the time. Kinda like Bang Tango (at least on their first cd).

Definite Charvel players! Wish I would have seen the vid!

One of the guitarists used a Prepro Charvel Strathead guitar(Black with 2 hums, added Floyd Rose).
I hae seen pics with the guitar from the first album tour.
