Look, Laiho would have been good as an endorser. CoB is, from what I gather, very popular in Europe. That doesn't change the fact that he's a victim of circumstance. Fender was in the middle of reorganizing a company that had its head up its arse. The Euro distributor going out is NOT irrelevant. It all adds up to one big clusterf**k that would have been resolved had Alexi or his management just been a bit more patient (play a damn King V or Soloist or something).

I don't think Fender messed up that badly, and think ESP only egged it on so they can sign Laiho and take another Jackson endorsee.

Now that Greg says it's irrelevant, you say it's NOT irrelevant again! Make up your mind!

We've also covered the King V probably being too big for the guy, and the Soloist's horns getting in the way of hand positioning, which he plays a LOT of stuff using the 24th fret and high positions, using proper hand positioning that with a Soloist you'll hit the back of your wrist against the lower horn. All
that is right in this thread, along with your relevant/irrelevant/relevant flipflop.

Re: Alexi tells all...

alexi would have been perfect to promote the new (hopefuilly) upcoming 24 fret rhoads...
bad luck for jackson.

I remember alexi saying; "I don't like ESP, I ****in hate ESP, but what else can I do?"
I understand his decision. I'd not feel like running after jackson like a fool, right after they let me down that way too...

sad story, but it's past.
alexi is still killer on stage and he said he starts feeling more comfortable with his ESPs, even though the neck is way thicker...

after all, it's about music.

I don't get it. He's supposed to be such an awesome guitarist but he can't adjust to a King V or a Soloist or even a standard Rhoads? Hell even I can do that!

well a standart rhoads misses two frets. it would be too much work to rearange all the written songs for a new guitar...

and alexi is rhoads.
when I think of alexi, I think of a rhoads guitar. and many people do so.
he's played a rhoads aaall the time, and people don't know him without.
it's not about feel only, it's about image.

sure he would have been able to get a 24 fret rhoads somewhere, but he was not about to feed jackson, who betrayed him badly IMO, with another couple of thousands cash while ESP was offering him free guitars etc...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">What part of my last post didn't you get?
the part where his music uses the 24the fret extensively? There goe a regular Rhoads. The part where the guy is very small compared to a King V? It's almost as big as he is! Or the part where playing high E arpeggios at the 24th fret, your wrist will tend to bang against the lower horn? I've checked that myself, though I'm not playing up there nearly as much as Alexi is. If you use the classical hand position, which is
what you need to do with fast arpeggios and scales, your wrist will hit the bottom horn, hard enough to hurt and numb
your wrist sometimes. I don't see anything incomprehensible about any of those factors.

You can adjust playing what you play, but that doesn't mean he can adjust playing the music he plays. AIC, Jerry Cantrell
and Rancid aren't using 24-fret guitars as far as I know, so it's apples vs. oranges. I imagine if someone told you to use gear you found unsuitable, you would understand very well why you couldn't use the stuff recommended.

Of course you don't like Alexi, as is well known here. If it were Jerry Cantrell asking for a 24-fret Rhoads you
would be behind him 100%.

Re: Alexi tells all...

The dude's not THAT small. He's MAYBE an inch or two shorter than me, from what I've read here. He's also a much better guitarist than me and should be able to handle anything with a neck. But he wanted customs. He put his order in, and since it came from a distributor that wouldn't be able to handle it anymore, the order got canceled. I don't know who called who to talk about what, but it SOUNDS to me like nobody bothered calling Jackson or Fender to see what was going on and why the orders were canceled, and instead went off the information that the dealer gave them.

Okay, to clarify the relevant/irrelevant thing... Whether they went out due to bankruptcy or just having their distributorship pulled is what's irrelevant. The fact that they weren't the distributors anymore is what IS relevant. The how and why isn't important, but the fact that it DID happen IS important. Make more sense now? Re: Alexi tells all...

So your raising the BK as an issue initially was irrelevant, is that what you're saying?

I guess it's irrelevant - or IS it relevant? What was relevant
then is irrelevant now at least. No use crying over spilled water, it's milk under the bridge now....

Alexi is barely taller than Kimberly though, and I think she is barely 5 ft. tall, so he is pretty small.

Hey, I was just pointing out a factual error... don't get all metaphysical on me.

I don't care how tiny the dude is. If you can play a Rhoads, you can play a KV. The only difference is that the KV has a longer fin on one side.

Maybe the bottom fin doesn't clear the floor with him!

I agree that the King V would be his most feasible alternative though, but maybe he was just pissed off, like we get arguing about this stuff long after the fact.

Think about it, though: If a tree falls in the forest, with no one to hear it, does it still crush the slow squirrel who didn't get out of the way? Think about
THAT, why don't you?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Could've gotten one of the Japanese 24-frets, which are a lot mroe common than US/Euro ones. You don't hhave to wait for the custom shop to make them, either.

Re: Alexi tells all...

i can't believe that this issue is as crucial as it seems to be in this thread. btw, ESP also killed JFK, RFK, and ibanez is responsible for maintaining the bermuda triangle. it's a guitar company; i highly doubt they're sitting in their ring of hell, scratching their beards and wondering how they can screw jackson over again. i really doubt that they consider jackson much comptetition as far as market share goes, anyway.

i'm surprised that he doesn't like his esp though. (referring to the "neck is too big" issue) did they not make these for him right then and there, or was it a mustaine kind of thing when they said "here, no one buys this; you play it!" really people, any of these companies are very capable of making a nice guitar. btw, ever see randy with his sandoval v? that thing dwarfed him, and he was about 5'5. i'm with BM, i'm sure alexi's great, and i'm sure he was a big boy and could have adjusted to a kv if he HAD to have a jackson right then and there.

anyway, there's my .02

sully

then again, with the stress of having to prepare for a tour, and his favorite guitars being stolen, i'm sure there was an any port in the storm mentality. armchair all ya want, it's not gonna change anything.
