Re: New Maiden "Dance of Death" Is Rather Disappointing

I haven't heard it yet, but I'll get it soon.

I can't say anything bad about any Maiden album, but I was a bit let down when Bruce came back. His solo stuff was just so much more fresh and vibrant than the repetitive, anthem-y nature of most Iron Maiden songs. That's the lure of $$$, tho...
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

I'm sorry the new album isn't better. I hope they at least stay together long enough to do a few more tours. I'm only 20, so I've never seen them live. I heard they kill.

EDIT: P.S. - Steve Harris REIGNS. One of my all-time favorite bass players.

In the title track "Dance of Death," there's a guitar bit that sounds like The Lord of the Dance.

In the same track, Bruce sings "And I Danced, And I Pranced !" I never thought I'd hear those words in a Maiden song, but Steve's lyrics ain't what they used to be. There's also a part where it sounds like Bruce is rapping.

The album is still worth it for Dave and Adrian's guitar work, but that's about the only parts I enjoy.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Nope! I read a recent interview with Bruce where he states this is the last tour (Because they're getting too old).

Very good album imho. I think the first 2 tracks are great album openers btw.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Really! In an interview with Bruce I saw recently he said that they weren't going to do any big tours but still would do mini tours and festivals. He said it wasn't really necessary for them to go out on the road for 9 months at a time anymore.

Lantz - I heard the same thing. They're not retiring, just scaling down their show.

In the San Jose Mercury News a few weeks ago Dickinson said Harris' back is really screwed up. Said he had some crushed vertebrae from running around on stage with a heavy bass all these years and some days he can't even walk. He said they're all almost 50 years old (or older) and they want to spend more time with their families, relaxing, etc. They'll still play shows, just no more 600 date extensive tours.

Bass players are doomed. That same thing happens to so many metal bass players.

Personally, I don't care. I would rather die a bassist than live forever a drummer. JK.

Incidentally, can anyone recommend a Maiden DVD?

"Rock in Rio" is pretty smashing. I also have the making of "Number of the Beast" and that is cool as well...alot of interviewing and such in that one.

there is no maiden video better than MAIDEN ENGLAND!!! the peak of their career! seventh son tour. absolute best footage both visually and audibly. (better guitar tone that Rio) and you don't have janik and adrian playing adrian's solo during ADRIAN'S SOLO!

I'd agree - Maiden England if the best as far as I'm concerned, but it isn't available on DVD (yet?)
