RIP Shawn. I can only imagine the kind of band that's gonna be formed wherever it is that all the guitar greats go to. What happened to him, the link doesn't provide any info.
I live on the edge of danger facing life and death every single day.....then I leave her at home and go disarm bombs.
For people who are saying who's Shawn Lane pick up the Cd called Powers of Ten and listen to the cut "West Side Boogie" its a very sad day .What a talent May you rest in peace
I went to his forum and there was a post from his daughter Ashe on 9/20 saying he needed his fans' thoughts and prayers due to lung disease. She didn't elaborate.
Check his discography if you go to the site; he made a lot of music in his time on Earth. I remember Paul Gilbert spoke of Shawn Lane in an early interview when asked what players he liked. He said Shawn was so good he scared him.
You scare Paul Gilbert on electric guitar and I say mission accomplished! You are a badass shredder!
Shawn Lane was a monster player
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.
Oh man, this sucks!
If you ever for one moment think you are hot sh*t on guitar, a listen to any of Shawn's work with Jonas Hellborg will cure you of that notion real quick...
> Back 10 years ago or so,the college town 15 miles away was selling tickets for a band called The Willys, featuring Shawn Lane, and needless to say I bought one,and never regretted it once. The band was unspectacular, being a seemingly typical top 40 band, other than having an amazing guitar player. Even on simple stuff like that Bryan Adams song "Somebody",he stole the show like no other player I've ever seen, making the mundane sound cool, and the cool incredible. He played an old Ibanez RG2550 that night, with a hot pink Soloist as his back up. You can't walk into a guitar shop in Memphis without hearing his name mentioned. Yet another incredible talent stolen from us. Tommy D.
"I'm going to try and work it out so at the end it's a pure guts race......because if it is.....I'm the only one that can win" - Steve Prefontaine
I never heard him before so I downloaded a bunch of his stuff last night, and wow. You guys are right, it's a shame I never got to hear him until he was gone.
