Man, I got that album 3 days before it came out officially in Germany... Remedy Records in Hamburg got it early!

It's such a great album, I can't describe it... like the greatness of Crimson I and Moontower combined!

And yes, Dan Swanö is the MAN!!!!

Edge of Sanity rocks!

of his other projects I only know Katatonia (very cool doomy stuff, check out Brave Murder Day if you haven't heard them) and Bloodbath (a sort of a 'super-group' tribute to old school swedish death, ala Entombed/Dismember/etc. vocalist from Opeth, Guitarist from Katatonia, etc)

He's not in Katatonia, but he is in Bloodbath along with The katatonia guitarists, and Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth. Playing old school death metal. I like their songs a ton but the guitar tone on that Resurrection through carnage album isn't my cup of tea. It sounds overly processed.

As far as I can tell Swano is involved with Edge of Sanity, and a solo project from 98. Moontower is the name of that album. I haven't heard it.

I think he has had his hand in baking quite a few more pies than that though. His name pops up alot I just can't think of any in particular at the moment.

The one track I heard was excellent! Hard to find info on them.

What are Dans other projects like?

Dan is also in the progressive rock band "Nightingale", together with his brother.

He had and still has countless side projects, such as Infestdead, PanThyMonium, and has produced even more bands.
He was the producer for the first two Opeth albums, Dissection's "Storm of the Light's Bane", and probably 50% of all other metal albums coming from Sweden in the last ten years.

Yes, he's crazy!

I have Crimson 2, but I'm too busy listening to the CDs I bought tonight to give it another listen, but yes Edge of Sanity is good stuff.

If you want more info, you can go to his official forum (Dan Swano) at:

Thanx for the link Xen! I just read Dans post on his tone. He got that Godly tone on Crimson II with a Pod XT!!!
Such a tight album, i guess he used bass software instead of a real bass to get it as tight as possible too.

as far as I know. Crimson II is one big song. but its been segmented into tracks. That's my understanding anyway. Crimson I was just 1 40 minute track.

I find it to have the same vibe as Crimson I with much better production and no Pete Steel type vox, just the Mikael Åkerfeldt type clean and his David Vincent type death style. Thats my take on it, as someone who has only recently discovered EOS. Some parts have a real IF "Colony" vibe as well.
