Greg, really dude, pull your head out. There is no 'Basically a common model" with early Charvels. You know as well as everyone else here it was all custom back then. Stars haven't been neglected by anyone except the guitar buying public that APPARENTLY DOES NOT WANT AS MANY AS THEY ONCE DID. That "stupid money" is roughly the same, adjusted for inflation, as the cost of a new Charvel back then (this point was made when people were complaining about the cost of the Charvel 25th anniversary guitars). The shape NEVER WAS in production is my point.

The only production stars I know of were the imports made in India. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me and point me towards the cheap stars.

I still say the Star shape will outsell the Kelly Star and the Warrior easily. It just seems silly to me that Charvel invented the damn shape and you've got other companies copying it, yet C/J doesn't even build it as a production model.

Back to the original topic, that's a damn cool looking guitar and probably the first and only ESP I've ever seen that I liked. I'd actually consider purchasing that guitar with an ESP logo.

Re: Roope Latvala goes ESP...

Hmmm...okay, I couldn't find a website for Sinergy when I did a search. I was hoping maybe to hear a full song sample, but I listened to all of the tidbit tiny clips on CDNOW.

For myself...eh, some of those songs might be alright for a general listen now and then. Some of it sounded more along my lines of taste, some didn't. Funny, some of it reminded me of old Lizzie Borden, which I actually like, both musically and vocally. I'm not really a big fan of...what do you call it...lead runs in the rhythm, lead fills, I dunno. And this band, as well as several other newer bands I've heard really overuse that convention, to my taste. I prefer more straight-out rhythm chording riffs, myself. I'd never even attempt to play any of this band's stuff, lawdy it's so ridiculously past my guitar playing ability hehehe.

I'm curious...of course I couldn't hear enough of the vocals in those puny clips to know what the songs were about, but some of the CDNOW reviewers commented on them being "satanic" lyrics. I'm not religious--completely void of religion, in fact, but I don't find lyrics about anything "satanic" to be particularly interesting or captivating, so it just doesn't appeal to me as a motivator to make me enjoy "satanic" songs at all. Fine for whoever gets their kicks on it, I don't care, just not my cup o tea. What's the take on the "satanic" comment about Sinergy's lyrics...is that what the band's lyrics are about?

Re: Roope Latvala goes ESP...

I've only got one Sinergy cd, Beware The Heavens, and it's awesome! Kim has an amazing voice. No satanic imagery or lyrics to be found. They're more of an old-school type band and sound a little like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest with lyrics about dungeons and dragons, warrior princess type of stuff. Maybe their newer stuff is different. I've also got one Children of Bodom cd, Follow The Reaper. Great stuff as well, if you can stomach the black/death metal type vocals. I think it's pretty cool most of the time.

Re: Roope Latvala goes ESP...

Kimberly's lyrics aren't Satanic, but some are anti-Christian; not quite the same thing. She is an avid fan of Xena,
Warrior Princess, and several songs are about Xena's world, scattered among the 3 CDs. Other lyrics are about dark fantasy
but it's more an extension of how Maiden
writes about horror movies than anything.

Try Kazaa, and check out "The B1tch is Back". It's nothing to do with the Elton
John song, and don't let the opening scream stop you; the singing itself is all clean, and the dual guitars are incredible! You don't have to be able to play it to like it, brother!
Ron is the MAN!!!!

Re: Roope Latvala goes ESP...

Thanks for the advice. They did have the snippet of that song on the CDNOW site, and it sounded promising. The album that one was from was probably the best collection of nearly-useless snippets of all their albums hehehe. Really hard to go much off those tiny little clips, but oh well. As much as I don't personally have a problem with the idea of downloading music so much, I really kinda shy away from that. Having dial-up, I'm sure I'd never download enough songs to set off any red flags, but I'm so po' right now I could barely scrape enough to pay for the real CD, much less any kind of RIAA fines hehehe. I'll keep Sinergy on my list to check out more once the finances get better.

This topic made my day. I might be dreaming but I like to think that Roope was influenced by my guitar when he ordered his custom ESP. All I know is that he has tried mine and like it and it's the only Jackson Star in Finland. Layout is pretty similar also. Check the story and pics out here:

Great to see so many US players getting into Roope and Alexi! Sinergy's Gallowmere and Midnight Madness are classics!

Damn, am I the only one that thinks Roope's ESP is butt-ugly?

And IMHO, Jackson should take action against ESP for this ****. It's the principle of the matter...

esp japan is untouchable in the matter. They aren't breaking any japanese laws by makin ga star body...its not like Roope's is the first one they've done anyway. Look on their webiste...they have a couple other star bodied signature guitars too.

DeadNight Warrior,

I really don't care for "star" shaped guitars in general. Not sure if I'd classify this one as butt-ugly, just not really my taste in guitars. Does that count?

The star to me is a ripped of version of Eddie’s chopped up explorer. Not my thing. Wouldn’t sell very many to the Nu-Metal crowd.

I forgot earlier that I wanted to write regarding what you said about the "growling". I hope you didn't take anything I said as insulting towards that sort of vocal style, or insulting personally. I'm a goofy guy that likes to joke around a lot, but humility and respect are high virtues on my list, and I would hope to never insult someone's integrity as an artist.

I try my best never to comment on how much "talent" I believe is required or shown in music. Being a near-completely talentless schmuck myself, I could hardly make a valid comment on someone else's ability hehehe. Looking back at the history of the music we ALL listen to on this forum, it would be EXTREMELY hypocritical for ANY of us to comment on the amount of "talent" required to produce ANY kind of artistry, taking into account the vast amount of negative comments said for years about the perception of "talent" required to play or produce heavy metal music in general. I'm sure we can all remember hearing people years ago make comments about how they thought there was no "talent" involved in this genre of music--I know I sure can. And it would be improper for any of us to turn around and say that about each others' musical tastes, or the music anyone else listens to.

Personally, I completely disregard the whole idea of "talent" when I listen to music. To me, it's completely irrelevant. I listen to music that I like because I like it, and it's really just as simple as that. It doesn't matter to me if a band has the most awesome guitarist or singer or whatever...if I don't like the songs, I won't listen to it. I don't listen to any music for the sole purpose of awe'ing over the "talent" shown in the work. In its most pure form, I believe all music should be about making the best songs the artist can produce--not about showing off "talent".

So, I certainly hope you didn't take anything I said as criticizing you or anyone who sings in your style of vocals. I was only saying that I don't like that style of vocals, and nothing more. The same way someone might say "I don't like broccoli". They don't like it, and it's really just as simple as that. It doesn't imply or mean anything above that fact.

As far as my musical buds on the board go, the only thing that matters to me is that you have the cool gear you want, play the music you want, and you're all having a great time doing it. Life's too short to worry about any more crap than ya gotta.
