I still don't understand that some of you keep saying that metal and shred should be underground but now when it's mainstream again you like the popularity it has? Or when everyone hates metal the metalheads say that metal should be appriciated more but when metal is popular the metalheads say that metal should be underground.

btw. Bill, Tremonti smokes those guys in Trivium

Brotha E..I agree with EVERYING you said..except for your last line..

I'd smoke Tremonti in a headcutter..Trivium dudes would definitely give me a run for my money in a all-out shredfest...and prolly kick my ass.

E, I'm not saying you have to love Trivium and their music..but those fuckers can play, some fast technical shit very well..and are inspiring alot of younger kids to carry the torch..Tremonti NEVER did that..he's a popular sonwrighter, he writes songs..not my cup o' Joe !

True Metal to me was always about power, speed and virtuocity..always was and always will be.

Metal is not meant to be popular..but whenever it does everyone thinks they sold out..and sometimes they do..due to what's popular and marketable..Lynch did a Rap record, Metallica suddenly sounded like a Godsmack tribute band, Megadeth put out Risk, Queensryche became increasingly gay ..shit, the list is endless..

While everyone was watching MTV and enkoying Creed and Godsmack on the radio..I was forced underground where true metal just picked up steam and became even more pissed off and never lost sight of that virtuosity that whole time....I am part of that..that's where my heart was and nothing else existed...not ever will!!

I first heard and met Nevermore in '97..I was in a VH trib band at that time when Sammy left and Dave did those two new songs that we learned and played every weekend. I was left very disappointed. Jeff Loomis replaced Ed for me at that time. I never seen anyone like him, It wasn't just his speed, it was the whole package..that music ripped me open..much like when I was 13 in '78 hearing VH and Eruption for the first time

Before I discovered Nevermore and Coroner..I was like many of you guys all I listened to was VH, Dokken, Ratt, Racer X, Shotgun Messiah, Rough Cutt, and ALL the Shrapnel guys like Kotzen, Howe, Tony Mac, Michael Lee Firkens, Freidman, Becker, Saraceno and so on..

Creed wasn't about that..far from it man..they were into God, money and Pussy!

Trivium is about that..Dragonforce is about that..they took what Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera and Cacophany and ect..was all about and made it cool again..that whole shredding gunslinger mindset is BACK..not because of Tremonti..because of these young guns..

sorry Bill, but how long Creed has been gone? Many, many years I think. And guess what, musicians improve.

I listened some Trivum stuff and Tremonti stuff and watched videos on youtube.

All those guys can sweep pick, legato and all that crap. All they have shitty vibratos. All they can be very sloppy live.

But let's talk about playing not technique.
The guys in trivium don't have absolutely ANY attitude in their playing, I can pick harder with my nose hair, they are like smootching a babys butt instead of playing. Tremonti has some attitude and he also does some cool whammy bar stuff ala. Brad Gillis, EVH etc. and some cool EVH type harmonic shit.

Watch the youtube vids. for yourself and compare, they all can do those techniques, yes Tremonti can sweep pick too, you told you can't...well whatever but compare the attitude those players have in their playing. You'll see what I mean.

That's also one of the main reasons I don't give a shit about the new players, no attitude, no groove, no dynamics, no distinctive style, no nothing....well carry on, I'll go listen to my gay VH and RATT records

I don`t care if metal is mainstream or not...
I just don`t want metal to sell out and become
                    pure pop...

It`s great to have bands as Trivium and other bands
that make a big thing around guitars...cause more and more
kids get into this music early because they see in on tv and stuff...
So kids start to like metal and they start to like guitars...
                    So it`s great...

                    And it keeps metal alive...

                    When I was younger..
I listened to the beatles, led zeppelin and Black Sabbath, then to Limp Bizkit and stuff(yeah I know, I think too they suck) and it always became harder and harder...
And now I know for me what is good metal and what isn`t but, hey it is
in the eye of the beholder...
If metal would be underground no one would know it except some VIP`s *lol*..
And what would happen?...Metal would die and then we must be listening to
hip hop and stupid kiddy pop...And who of you would want that?

                    You know what I mean?...

P.S.: Who finds in this what I wrote 2 song names get`s a cookie

Bill has a point (there, i said it ).
But honestly i don't give a f*** about what's in the mainstream or not. I mean i don't have a problem if only 5 people on this world listen to the bands i like. The music doesn't get better when more people listening to it (in fact it often gets way worse since more people = more money = more business people get involved who like to maximize profit = more mainstream music).

Yes there is far worse than Trivium out there. But that still doesn't make their music good for me. Yes you can bet that i would listen to their music way before any 50cent guy.

If other people like them, good for them. I have no problem with that. It's just not the band for me. Yep my mind works that simple.

I hear what you're saying E..But I'm just giving "kudos" to the kids in these bands that are carrying the torch..I always wanted to.

Creed ..ummm..they just made want to put my gun in my mouth.

To me, guys like Tremonti are the "enemy"..that's how you view these giys when your a tunnel-visioned, hard headed, disgrunteled, pissed off metalhead..when deep underground..like a mole.

you can dig whatever you like man..and I love you!

                            but..

You can't pry the metal out of my cold dead fingers..

You NEED assholes like me..to make sure metal never dies...even if you don't like it.
