It was also to make a point bill that there are tastes to everything, especailly shred. I thought when I said the half was shit thing it'd get clinically thrown back at me, but it was just in passing, I'll go through them all one by one if I gotsta.
The Racer X clip was awesome, not just in what he played, but how he played it, theres alot of depth to the tone, and that is just my bag! This is where the big deciding turns on the other videos. The fact I had my sennheiser headphones on does nothing for the harshness of my evaluations, you can hear everything in those puppies!
The mike romeo stuff is technically brilliant again, as he always is, but its more a 'this is my technique, this is what I can do with it' then actual composing. Yeah thats pretty much what shreds about, but for some reason Im more entertained when listening to Vai doing the same (embarassingly at times "firewall"? fuckin aye....). Again, personal preference.
Broderick is another I dont know basket. Seeing him with nevermore he was amazingly brilliant. He played a very good support role to Loomis, knowing to step back and not try for the limelight, but still putting in a 100% genuine performance. Knowing your role in positions like that is important, especially when your as advanced as he is. BUT, and with most of the vids of his I've seen, again, technically brilliant, but not my cuppa'tea on the composition/musical execution of his ability. That and I really dont like his tone in alot of the vids (personal preference again, see a pattern?).
Skolnik is a GOD. Probably one of the worst betcha cant play this for testament fans, but a brilliant display of just basic shred in a different style! And its clean too! And flawless! This is genuine playing ability, teased at by the ability to relate it to music. The music aint my strawberry ice cream....but this I could actually listen to. I could listen to him for an album playing jazz because for some reason I click with his playing/musicology better. That would be personal preference.
The evergrey one sucked. Yeah it has all the elements that we know and love, whammy, shred. But it just wasnt clean at all and the sound sucked on this aswell. Its a guitar world thing to have the best players at there worst for some reason, but then loomis sounded great on them? Go figure. Is this better then a rap video, for sure! But its not good enough to be in my selective rotation. I'm sure the guy can nail that 365 nights a week, but here it just wasnt as impressive, especially with the above standards set. That said, this dude has actual FEEL and hand tone. The fingers are doing the talking. Unfortunatel they slur a little too. Tough crowd in here, yikes.
Paul Gilbert friggin' RULES. He combines all the elements of above that I liked and more. Feel and tone is spot on, technical ability rocks it and the composition is excellent, to my ears. I really wanna learn more about him, and will!
The trivium vid is the height of suck man, you gotta admit it. Regardless of what good they can do, they are just dieing being there. Their playing has all the charm and grace of the nuremburg trial. Its not particularly groundbreaking stuff, and its not trying to be, which is why I'm passing on it. And I'm sure its partly guitar worlds fault for not keeping them up and entertained, but still, who of us here would lay down dead playing for a guitar world camera?
The Loomis/Broderick shred is still one of the best videos ever recorded and the reason youtube sold for $2bn imo
You just cant shake a stick at that playing!
And very significant is the dude in the bedroom playing Loomis. He rocked it man, thats fucking hard to play, and hopeless to get perfect (only Loomis sounds like Loomis, even if you can play technically better and faster (romey/broders), Loomis sounds, and hits the notes, that makes Loomis, Loomis!) and this dude does brilliantly. The tapping sweeping bits at the end are ridiculously fast and he nails them!
Not only do I agree thats awesome that he's doing that, its pretty much what I do too
Heres me! Doin the exact same shit!
Loomis got me into sweeping, and learning that made me happy I got that Schecter. It also made me happy to sell it because I knew I'd want the Loomis signature model, it/he means that much to me (mainly its the setneck, longer scale floyd'd 7 thing, its pretty much a hellraiser cross with the strathead mutt I built and the d2km I couldnt decide what finish to get!). Trivium just dont have the same pull as true proper guitar heroes in my eyes, yes guitar heroes come in many colours and flavours, but the guys I like, are doing it the way I wanna see.
There prolly isnt a less then amazing player you posted bill, but that doesnt mean I gotta like em!
Horses for courses folks, lets remember that!
I have hundreds of cd's of bands I actually DO like..still sealed in their packages..
Just because someone doesnt like the same thing you do, has no bearing on personal scathing attacks. My best mates n I can argue all day and night over whats better then the other, certainly none of them are into shred/metal like me, and we can debate shit over and over....but all the time we're having a laugh about it. When it gets comfortable like that, I can really have a dig at something they like, and vice versa! Being mean to one another is a brotherly thing, and ultimately Australian too! The meaner the better

This is where the horder thing came from

OK OK OK..very good man..you didn't have to get that elaborate..but since you did, good job..
How about I say..I agree with about everything you said..ESPECIALLY your last paragraph!!
How was I supposed to know you were just speaking in generalities..
Yeah, I posted that Trivium vid..just for thread obligation sake..I wasn't debating anything really there..I don't really think they "suck"..they're is much worse hacks out there making much bigger waves..and much better players being overlooked of course..oh hell yeah, yes!!!
I'm just happy that "somebody" is making kids play guitars again and showing kids for the first time in their fucking entire existence on Earth what ROCK actually is..instead of just spoonfeeding them nothing but ebonics..and nothing but for well over a decade!!!
I don't care about that silly old school Rap, that crap actually makes me laugh..but that progressed into a full blown Ebonic Plague..you know it's bad when your watching your local news achors trying to get jiggy wit it...and MTV, VH-1 , Much Music and BET are playing the exact same shit while I'm trying to eat a Tub of pasta!!
I been having a grand ol' time..look at my posts..I'm silly..silly I tell ya!!
I didn't take offense to anything, or anyone..I am a horder..I like that!!
I don't get "mad" for dumb shit like this anymore..come here and try to fuck my ass and then I may be a tad offended, maybe..but this is 100% childsplay for me..I'm silly!
Thank you Bibz,
you're Bibz..I'm Bubz..you see how that works..
BTW You could tell me Jeff Loomis sucks pink, fuzzy, monkey scrotums..I don't give a fuck..it tells your a dickhole..but I don't give a fuck..
dickholes are my life!!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
