    Re: Original Inspirations

Answering literally, because I had an older brother who played in our basement with his first band, Chuck Taylor. Being less of a wiseguy, Jeff Beck's Wired album was my record of choice when I was first learning the fretboard, spent many hours also with Dave Gilmour, and of course Randy, Eddie and Satch.

I'd have to agree about Ace Frehley. Not that he was the master of theory, but the old KISS stuff is what made me want a guitar. Also inspired by Joe Perry, Randy, Edwardo VH, Tommy Bolin, SRV, and I also think Jerry Cantrell is way cool.

              Re: Original Inspirations

I started when I was 8 so there really weren't any guitarists I was trying to emulate back then. At least, there was no one that made me want to pick up the guitar and play. That didn't happen until Jr. High, then the big ones were Randy, Eddie, Vai, Satriani, and Malmsteen.

It’s not easy to limit this to just 5 but for me the top 5 who originally inspired me would have to be:

                    Dave Mustaine
                    James Hetfield
                    Chuck Schuldiner
                    Jeff Hanneman
                    Scott Ian

                      Re: Original Inspirations

Back then it was Frehley, Lynch, Jake E Lee, Rhoads, Malmsteen. Lately I've gotten back into old VH, Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Clapton, George Harrison, even some Tom Scholz (sp)old boston stuff.

                        Re: Original Inspirations

Ace Frehley was the real reason I was interested. (Don't laugh - many people in my age group picked upa guitar because of him.)

The guys I wanted to play like, when I got serious about it:

                        Blackmore
                        Eddie VH
                        Rhoads
                        M. Schenker
                        Montrose

                              Re: Original Inspirations

In the order I discovered them:

                              Ritchie Blackmore
                              Jimmy Page
                              Alex Lifeson
                              Michael Schenker
                              Ulrich Roth

Many many more have blown my mind snce then, but these 5 had a formative impact
on my playing. They're the only ones I'd say I idolized, only because they came along in my formative years.
                              Ron is the MAN!!!!

Man, I must be one of the few that WASN'T influenced by VH, but I didn't care much for their style of music, so that's probably why... I guess.

                                Randy Rhoads
                                Yngwie Malmsteen
                                Ace Frehley
                                Hank Shermann/Michael Denner
                                A. Young /M. Young
