Sykes was on Thin Lizzy's "Thunder and Lightning" album in 1983--just before he joined Whitesnake. Good stuff!

              Re: John Sykes

This was a very cool night. I was invited to a private party (thanks to the guys at Powerline magazine) for the Blue Murder Cd release. Ok now put on your steel toes shoes I’m about to drop some names!

Downtown Julie Brown (MTV) was there (very nice lady) a couple of guys from Dream Theater (John P. was giving out cass. of there 1st album to everyone) and Ray Gillian from Badlands and of course John Sykes. This turn out to be a very big night for me. I only brought a couple of cass. with me (I was in-between bands and just finished a 4 song demo to try to land a big gig or a deal) John listen to a couple of songs and like it. He asks if I was using a boogie etc. He also gave me some career advice (don’t give up your publishing etc.) and gave a boatload of drinks. I sat at a table with him and Ray and the guys from Powerline all night. Jake was supposed to show but never did. A few weeks later Powerline ran a review of my demo, which in turn landed me a gig in Florida. The band (Scrooge) would fly me in to re-record 4 songs, for no money, but would pay all my expenses for the 10 days I would be there. It was winter in NYC so I said sure. To make a long story short I the got gig stayed in Florida gigged up and down the East Coast for about 8-10 years (in 3 bands), met my wife etc. All in all a great night. I’m a little drunk in the pics, that’s what happens when you give a skinny guy free drinks (who’s has very little money for food that week.). Click the links for pics with John and Ray.
I hope I didn’t bore anyone with that story. One of these days I'll post the demo, once I figure out how.

I saw John Sykes with Thin Lizzy in Belfast at the start of December. Great show and he took all Phil Lynott's vocals also.
Scott Gorham also played in this "Thin Lizzy" lineup
Oh stick this in your fuse box ..... Bon Scott
