• Favourite Guitar Tone

So which guitarist/s has/have the guitar tone of your dreams? Kindly list not more than 3.

My vote goes to

Gary Moore and John Sykes(not in any particular order).

I love the smell of raw distortion!!

Michael Schenker has the best tone ever in my opinion. Just listen to Cry For The Nations for his best sound.

Real hard to pick a favourite. It depends what I have been listening to recently. A few stand out in my mind though.

Tommy Victor - Prong - Cleansing
Tommy's tone on this album is unbelievable. It sounds like a rhinocerous eating a chainsaw. I just heard recently that he uses solid state amps, but I always thought he used a modded Marshall. Anyone know?

Pepper Keenan/Woody Weatherman - C.O.C. - Wiseblood/America's Volume Dealer
These guys have the ultimate heavy southern rock tone. More tone than you can shake a stick at.

Matthias Jabs - The Scorpions - Love at First Sting
This is one of those CDs that I have to dig out every once in a while and put in the truck CD player. Awesome!!!!

Usually Dream Theater, Opeth, Symphony X, Nevermore, Blind Guardian, and Death do it for me. The guitar tones on Entombed's CD "Clandestine" are great too.

Chris DeGarmo/Michael Wilton of Queensryche, particularly on their earlier recordings. The rhythm guitar tone on "Queen Of The Reich" is exactly how electric guitars were meant to sound!

Two that come to mind as outstanding (though maybe not my favorites):

Michael Lee Firkins on his first Shrapnel disc
Steve Morse on DP's Purpendicular

I second Morse on Purpendicular.

I'd also add:

--Tony Iommi on any Sabbath album after Ozzy left
--Alexi/Roope on the Sinergy albums
--The Amott brothers on any Arch Enemy album
--Whoever's playing on the first Avantasia album
--Hetfield on Master of Puppets
--Petrucci on Images & Words

non-metal:

--David Gilmour on Wish You Were Here
--Stevie Ray Vaughn on Couldn't Stand the Weather
--Gary Moore on Still Got the Blues
--Jimmy Page on Presence
--Eric Johnson on Ah Via Musicom
--Carlos Santana on Blues for Salvador
--Frank Zappa on Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar

1)Sammy Duet- G0ATWH0RE/Acid Bath...favorite Death/Black Metal tone...

2)Jerry Cantrell...Favorite rock/metal tone...

3)Scott "Wino" Weinrich on the Obsessed's "The Church Within" album is probably my favorite overall tone ever.

Hard to limit faves to 3, I'd like to have thrown Iommi and Gibbons in there somewhere, along with Josh Homme,Tim Sult,Tom Fischer,Fast Eddie......don't worry admins, I won't get started.
