      John Sykes in Whitesnake 87 and Blue Murder 89 - the most badass rhythm tone I've ever heard.
      Also I like Eric Johnson's and David Gilmour's tone a lot.

                            U2: the Edge, especially on Boy, October, War Clear, punchy almost like a bell. In concert, this guy has a larger rack than EVH.
