              VH - Fair Warning
Matthias Jabs - Love at First Sting
              John Sykes - Whitesnake

IMHO, Steve Vai's tone is usually subpar. There are exceptions but, as Zappa once said, "like a ham sandwich". ...And don't get me wrong, I love Vai's playing, too. Just not his tone.

Schaffer, Chuck, Sauron from Decapitated, Blind Guardian, Kai Hansen and Helloween, and friedman/mustaine tone on Rust and CoE.

But overall has to be Alexi. he kicks major tone and skill.

(least favorite is Dimebag's on the 101 proof album. he sounds like he's killing his speakers on some tracks or else its just crappy recording.)

                            1. Joe Satriani. They don't call him the Master Of Tone without good reasons. Such a wicked tone with a relatively simple setup.

                            2. Iron Maiden. I love Adrian's bridge pickup tone on "Somewhere In Time", and any of Dave's neck pickup tones, particularly in the later recordings... sooooo smooth and heavenly.

                            3. Tie between Suidakra, In Flames, and Arch Enemy. Thick modern refined European metal tone at its best.
