For me it would be
EVH Van Halen- and Fair Warning
Tom Scholz-Bostons first two albums I model my tone after both with a bit of me thrown in
Also Michael Schenker period.

Hey guys I was just talking to Alexi Laiho ...he plays awesome but his sound / tone sucked and he was a little asshole in person....as a big fan I was diappointed.

My favorite Tones of all time ...Easy

Van Halen ...1978 debut.
Savatage ....Criss Oliva ...on HOTMK / edge of thorns
Coronor ...Mental Votex....TT Baron "Son of Lilith!!!!

That's what kind of tones that me and Cleve go for..
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

These guys dial up my fave rhythm sounds :
Dave Mustaine (Countdown era)
Jeff Waters (old stuff)
It's all about the pick attack.
Latest sounds that I've enjoyed were Kreators new live CD and Donnas Take It Off intro. Yes - you heard it right!

RacerX, I don't know much about Avantasia, but aren't there a LOT of guitarists in Avantasia, not just one? It's like a big collaboration that puts any rap and hip-hop collaboration to shame.

Re: Favourite Guitar Tone

I'll have to give another nod to DeGarmo and Wilton of Queensryche up to the Empire era. Another notable Adrian Vandenburg when he played in Vandenburg.

Re: Favourite Guitar Tone

1) EVH first few albums (by a mile)

A Distant Second) Tie between loads of folks (Warren D., George Lynch, etc.)

On the smoother side, check out Jeff Beck "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat". His tone is probably mostly in his head/heart/fingers, but wow. Similar comment on Eric Johnson.

Wow, only 2 references (that I noticed) to Warren DeMartini. Amazing.

Count me in as a 3rd.
