Buckethead
Frank Gambale
Randy Rhoads
Alan Holdsworth (pre-synthaxe)

...those stick out in my head when I think of lead tone.
I love a bunch of different metal tones... but for some reason mostly Jazz comes to mind when it comes to real tone.
