<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, sports stars get multimillion dollar sneaker deals and no one bats an eye at that. Music artists' endorsement deals are chicken feed compared to that.
So given that their deals are already somewhat small, why shouldn't they go for the best deal they can get too? The free guitars are items, besides cash payments, that the company produces for relatively little money, yet the artist can maybe get 2 or 3 times retail selling it later as owned and signed by him, if he's someone like Mustaine. If he can get say $2,500 per guitar, it's the diff between $2,500 and $27,500 per year. $25,000 per year in the next 10 years will go a long way towards putting Dave's kids through college; why shouldn't he go wherever he can get that deal? It doesn't mean I'm buying a DV8, but I'm not mad he went to ESP. It's none of my business, and none of yours either.

Sports guys make tons of money because the sports industry makes way more money than the musical instrument industry does. I know of companies that had problems with endorsed artists looking for free guitars so the artist could sell them to supply drug habits or to suppliment their income. Limits have to be placed. Big time artists like Dave Mustaine should be cut a better deal than smaller, lesser known artists, but not given carte blanche. It IS our business as the money to pay for the free guitars is built into the street prices of the production guitar. Somebody has to pay for those promotional guitars and it is US.

Well, unless you're buying a DV8 it's not your problem. I haven't seen many people saying they'll buy a DV8 because Dave switched. One guy considering it seems to be leaning to the KV2T. By your line of reasoning you should be glad Dave doesn't endorse Jacksons anymore; you don't have to worry about paying extra for Dave's name. If a bunch of dumb rich
kids want to buy DV8s, it's no skin off of our asses.

Your right about Dave, but I am thinking about endorsements in general, not Dave specifically.

Re: I am so sad that alexi laiho left jackson..

In general, Jackson endorsees are paying for their guitars at dealer cost, and not even getting free guitars. Only the top guys are even getting a free guitar, and
Dave had the right to set himself above the other current endorsers, as he's second only to Randy Rhoads in the Jackson endorsee pantheon.

Look at it this way; if you did contract setups for a local music store, and say you were getting $50 each. Now the store buys out another store and says, Jim, we took on debt; we can only pay you $5 per setup now, but we appreciate your work!
Are you gonna work for 10% of what you got before, regardless of their reasons? No, you'd look for a better deal. So did Dave. Endorsers in general, of lesser stature, are likely to jump at an ESP endorsement where they can actually get the guitars for free, since they may be in a situation where they're eating peanut butter sandwiches to stay in the music business instead of going home to work at the auto parts factory. Most rock and metal bands aren't selling millions these days, which means most will NEVER pay back their advances. The endorsements are a way for these guys to keep going, making and playing music for a living. Yeah, some sell instruments for drug money, and some are probably selling guitars to feed their kids, so they don't have to hit the factory to do it. Again, their business, their decisions, not ours. You have the option not to buy guitars endorsed by any artist if you don't want to, or buy it used.

                          This is just me personally...(sp?)gggrrrr..
                          I play what I like.
When I first started out, I started wanting a Strat: Eric Clapton, SRV, Iron Maiden played them...I HAD to have one..about 5 years later I got it. My dream guitar..played it all the time. About 6 months ago I wanted an Ibanez..the Jems are Awesome looking..got a RG350DX..awesome looking, great playing, not the best sound, but I could live with it until I changed the p/u. Then the BC Rich caught my eye (april body art series) skull pile. Not a bad guitar at all. Mind you, all of these were WAY below my strat as far as quality and sound. But I tried them anyway. Then I decided to go ahead and get a Jackson. I had wanted RR model on and off for years..got the RX10D..and fell in LOVE. It's my guitar forever. I don't care who plays it and who doesn't. I always will. The comfort is great, the sound is way better than what I expected. It just FITS ME!!!I will always own a RR model. I want a RR1 or a RR5, but I am a Jackson player for life. I am selling the Ibanez and the BC rich to support my Jackson habit LOL...but I will never part with the Strat, it is just an amazing guitar. It has it's place in life with me. but the rest have to go LOL...
I know that was a long drawn out rant, but what i am trying to say is ..find what fits you and PLAY it. I dont care if it's Jackson, Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, Esp..or Godin, etc. Do what is right for you.

I agree 100% that Dave should have been put above the other artists. My point is that I KNOW many endorsed artists sit at the bargaining table with the expectation they are going to get unlimited free gear. Wholesale isn't good enough. Some companies give them one free guitar a year and the wholesale option if they want more, and they still ***** . ESP can provide them with what they want as they have a huge markup on retail guitars which provides them with more than enough cash to supply the artists with whatever they want.

To set myself straight on Dave. He sold alot of Jacksons. I will not argue on that. He should have been cut a better deal than anyone else based on his legacy alone, never mind where he could be going down the road. He chose to leave and that is something I hope he is happy with. I still do not believe he should have been given whatever he wanted. I am sure before he left the company tried to compromise. He had other motives for leaving and the # of guitars given away for free was the excuse he was able to use without publically admitting it was out of spite.

You know what?? I'm sad that Bleeding Through got endorsed by ESP when they were Jackson and Charvel players before too!! But just because they play guitars I don't like doesn't mean that I'm gonna stop liking them. They are playing here next month, I'm gonna ask them all about it!!
