  • Which Jackson endorsee gets best deal?

Out of all the guys that endorse Jackson guitars, who is getting the best deal as far as free guitars and money? I'm thinking Phil Collen from Def Leppard, but I could be wrong. He's been with the company a long time. He has his own signature model which seems to be the highest priced production model (almost like a custom shop guitar). Does he get paid a percentage of sales from those guitars? Every time Lep comes out with a new CD/tour, I see him with a bunch of new guitars. Does he pay anything for those?

Anyway, if it's not Phil who has the best deal with Jackson, then who?

Well if it is true about Dave Mustaine and Dean - I would bet one factor was Dave asking for the entire house - and Jackson said "WTF !?" you can't have that many guitars; you'll just sell them on Ebay in a few years anyway.

But - per your question; I would say you are correct - Phil Collen - a longtime Jackson user.....

+1 Phil probably has the best endorsment deal right now.
      His guitars are awesome.
Something tells me he's not real demanding.

Phil has sold more albums and has made way more money than the other Jackson endorsees, I think he cares about the quality and sound not about how much money/free guitars he gets from the company.

sure endorsees get free guitars...and some very cool customs too...but it's not an all you can eat buffet...most artists (vai at ibanez for example) may get a max of 1-4 free guitars a year depending on their deal...and everyone's is different...most endoresers you see with a lot of new guitars have usually at least paid cost or a little above that for the extra guitars...that being said...i would imagine phil, being a longtime endorser, does have the best contract...brand loyalty has always meant a lot to jackson/charvel...my .02...d.m.

You know, I didn't even think about Eddie. But is he really an exclusive Charvel guy? At his porn party thing, wasn't he still playing his Peaveys?

Still curious if Phil gets a percentage of PC1s like Vai does with Ibanez. I read in one interview where Vai said he has made more money from his Ibanez deal than all of his albums put together.

According to Robbin Crosby and Chris Holmes, that's not entirely true.

I wonder if Vai was referring solely to any percentage he may get from guitar sales, or if he is also talking about advertising & promotions he does for Ibanez too.

I wonder if he gets paid for each advertisement, photoshoot, clinic, appearance he does for the company, or if his contract includes a certain number of those obligations as his side of the deal.

Steve stated that Ibanez offered him a deal he couldn't refuse. My guess is huge amount of $$$$s because Steve has sold millions with his solo albums.

it makes me think of a *well known* Jackson/Charvel collector who would pay more to have the CS add a few personalized touches so that he could pretend he was an endorser...

This is the same guy who funded and released a bunch of cd's on his own, without being actually signed!

Ibanez also helped sponsor Steve's last tour.

Eddie is for Charvel and FMIC like Metallica are for ESP. They play Gibsons and Jacksons live and ESP says nothing. The use of their likenesses in ads is worth millions anyway. Same will be true for Eddie. He can pretty much do what he wants and as long as they sell his guitars and amps they'll be happy with the deal.

As for Phil, I hope he gets a cut on sales of his sig models. Then again, in the course of his career he probably didn't need the money as much as Vai would, so he might have gone for the guitars instead of the m oney.
