All publicity is good publicity. Whether it's intended to be good or not. Its gettin somebodies name out there. Yes Eddie has/had his issues. That seen was pretty sad read of my guitar hero. However he probably knew he was being watched and has read some of the reviews and statements printed and posted all over the world. And those of some of the most critical people. His audiance the guitar player. We can be brutaly honest and cold even to our heros that have changed the world of guitar forever. So he may have been just goofin around and puttin on a show for those skeptics to keep the "illusion" or "dilussion" real so too speak. Althought the smell of three day alcohal binge is hard to fake. lol ey a guy can be a optimist cant he?

I saw Steven Tyler in boston in a 7-11 buying some twinkys 15 years ago, but he looked pretty healthy.

No matter what shape EVH might be in, he still played some of the most creative and original(unless he copied someone no one know haha) guitar ever, and also was a part of some great music.

Some times people think people who are exceptional in one area can't be normal in others, So he's old, tired and henpecked, who isn't?

the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

After seeing recent photos of Eddie, I have to say I wouldn't recognize him if I saw him on the street. He looks like he's some gnarled old roadie...like the roadie chief that Wayne gets in Wayne's World 2...

Exaggeration, maybe. Bullshit? I don't think so.

He sounds like any one of us on an early morning after a rough night of partying when you still have to get up for work. He's probably hanging with the gf who owns a flower shop, in addition to now being his new manager!

We've all seen the rcent pics where he looks rough. We've seen the photoshop pic on Guitar World or whichever mag that was. He's in his 50s now, we all age and he's had some hard miles with the drugs, alcohol, cigs, cancer, etc...

So yeah, the author of the article played it up, that's the point of his article. But the fact that it's based on Ed's real condition is not hard to believe. More to the point, I think he fails in his intent, because we should all identify with Ed and his aches and pains as we are no longer spring chickens either.

We were with him in our indestructible, immortal youth, and now we're with him in our creaky middle age. Kinda sucks that we lived to pay the price; I though I'd "Kick it in the head when I'm 25" and burning the candle at both ends wouldn't matter. Hey, the joke's on me!

you are right Rich. Eddie isn't the 20 something hero we remember him as.

Bottom line is if you live hard, play hard and party hard its going to have an affect on how you age...Eddie is no different. I do get a kick outta the photochop EVH thread on HC but in all honesty...if he can come out and perform to Eddie type of standards we're used to I could give a fuck if he looks like the 1979 Eddie or Eddie the Iron Maiden mascott

Rich nailed it. The first thing that came to mind when I read it was that for about an 8 year stretch between my late teens & mid 20s, I damn well would've had the shakes if you dragged me out of bed at 9AM on a lot of days. Luckily, I outgrew that life. Ed never had to grow up, and in some ways he's doing better than I would've expected at his age. Probably better than I would've done, to be honest. I wish he'd take better care of himself, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards.
