• Sunn 0)))

Black Mariah was right. I ordered the CD "Flight of the Behemoth" by the band Sunn 0))) and picked it up just yesterday. It's pretty freakin cool. Just down-tuned sustaining guitars and sound effects. Theres some fucked up sounding keyboards on a track or two as well. There is no pulse to the music, however. This is just drone music, so it's no good when you want to hear drums, hard rhythms, grooves, etc. Other than that it's pretty good, and a nice change from the norm.

Re: Sunn 0)))

I was surprised to see the name "Sunn 0)))". I bought an Iceman off the 'Bay awhile back that belonged to the guitar player. The reason I know that is because he stuffed the case full of Sunn literature and put my email address on thier mailinglist without asking me. The guitar showed up with the thickest strings I have ever seen on an instrument...took some ultra neck tweaking to get it to repsond to a set of .10s. But you guys are definitely right...that is some low-tuned doooooooooom!

Hey Yabba,
Not sure of the guy's last name, but I think his first name was Steve, and the guitar came shipped from NY.

that's O'Malley; he's also the driving force behind Khanate, another good band for Ninja Guitar to check out if he likes Sunn 0))) (he was also in Thorr's Hammer and Burning Witch)

Sunn 0))) rocks! I'm playing it on my large stereo system, and it just sounds massive. Huge bass response!

I need to check out some more doom bands. I'll try to start with Khanate.

If you like Sunn 0))), Khanate is probably a good bet

some other doom bands I've been listening to a lot of lately:

Buried at Sea - Migration (I'm obsessed with this album, it's the heaviest thing I've heard in a loooong time... they just don't seem to hit a wrong note, the whole thing flows together into this crazy doom juggernaut.. huge droney bassy doominess with great tortured screaming vocals, but they're mixed rather low so they don't get in the way of the wall-o-guitars at all; I could blather on about this album all day.. (I think there are soundclips at http://www.originalsoundrecordings.com/store.htm )

Electric Wizard
Thorr's Hammer
Orodruin
Sleep
Unearthly Trance
Warhorse
YOB
Reverend Bizarre - In The Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend; this is another album I'm obsessed with; sorta like the original black sabbath line-up was reincarnated in finland, and they've gotten slower and heavier since the 70s
