  • What's the thing on Buckethead's LP?

What's the switch or button thing he uses? I remember reading something about it connecting and disconnecting to make the sound it does. Anyways, here's a link to him playing Jordan which uses the thing.

Is there any other name for it? I can't find anything about them without that damn band coming up.

No other name I know of. What they do is you hit them and it essentially turns the guitar "off". Very handy.

It's basically the same as having two volume controls on your guitar... you turn one volume off, then toggle the pickup selector switch back and forth so there's no sound from the one pickup and then you get sound from the other pickup. Pretty cool for machine gun type effects.

A kill switch is just a switch that cuts out your sound. You can use the 2 volume control thing or you can have a switch fitted. Tom Morelllo from Rage against the Machine uses them alot too.

It's also known as a momentary switch (the type that is down/off only as long as you hold it down) or an on/off switch (push on/push off).

I know the guy can play but he just doesn't excite me. His band sounds thin due to no rhythm guitarist. I've seen the guy whip, so I know he can do it. Plus it's a little too depressing !!! Just MHO.. Please don't get on me if you don't agree.

                        its called a killswitch
but buckeyhead uses a push button as the 'switch'
where as morello & others use a toggle switch

I've screwed around with the one volume off thing on my LP and I can't get it any cool sounds out of it. Any tips? I feel retarded, I'd think it should be relatively simple.

Just watched the video, that should help a little. I would try to pick stuff then go to the switch.
