Different people have different guitar gods, it all depends on your style of music. Do you think someone that loves country is gonna consider randy rhoads a guitar god?
Kurt wrote good music, may not be your type, but he wrote catchy hooks and good rythems.
I realy hate when people judge a guitarist on how many notes they can play or dont like a guitarist because it is not there style of music. Yesh there is more to music then that.
I have many people I look up too, Kurt being one of them, Randy defintly being one of them, Jake, Lynch and alot more, but then again there are alot of other groups I like too that most of you wouldnt like and would probaly trash and piss me off.
But i do agree, Kurt has been on the cover too many times, but then again so has Randy, probaly equal amount of times, so if you want to go with that argument, then they shouldnt have Randy either!

Well a guitar "God" should be able to play that fukker more than just to make catchy riffs...Guitar God status should be reserved for those who take it beyond just making music...
Sorry to break it to ya but yes...It is about how many notes, articulation, feel technique and all that...Thats what sets virtuosos apart from the norm.
If Kurt is a guitar hero or God then so is Cat Stevens and many other great song writer who played guitar. Funny thing about Kurt is...he said he couldn’t play the thing as good as other guitarist out there...
Is Joan Jett a guitar hero? "I love Rock n Roll" was pretty big...
"I realy hate when people judge a guitarist on how many notes they can play or dont like a guitarist because it is not there style of music. Yesh there is more to music then that."
Man I get sick of hearing that....We all know there is more to playing than the number of notes...But when someone can take it to another level by having the skill to play at lightning speed as well as the rest...Thats a hero!
And don't tell me fast guitarist can't play with feel...that is just a generalization...and cliché

Keith Richards can't play fast to save his life... so the epitome of guitar gods isn't a guitar god anymore?"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

That is not true at all, that is just your small opinionated mind that thinks that, why dont you try getting your head out of your ass and see there is more to music then that.
I know many guitarists that can play many notes, articulate etc... but cant write a song to save there ass. But under your definition that would make then a guitar god.
Not everyone wants to hear a million notes, wants to hear soloing, I would rather hear a good rythem player and a heart felt played solo over most of speed metal solo's anyday! Give me a home sweet home solo anyday over alot of todays music, why because Mick played a great heart felt solo there.
If you are sick of me saying it is more then just how many notes a second, well then stop doing small ass stupid opinions that should be left to 13 year olds. Oh yeah if you dont want to hear it, there is a little function on this board where you can just ignore everything i say, I suggest you use it!
Here is another one of my favorite sayings, well Kurt made mega money, got to do what he loved for a living and got his music played to millions of people. You sit here on your ass bitching about it.
And dont go giving me that crap if he was so happy why did he kill himself, because if you know anything about Kurt it had alot to do with his drug habbit. Why did he have a drug habbit, because he had a condition where the acid in his stomack would eat through and he was in constant pain. Honestly I dont think I would want to live in constant pain like that either.
Do i listen to nirvana anymore, not really, but then again my music style has changed alot and I am just not much into it anymore. But in the 90's that is how I was with the 80's music, now in 2000's I am loving the 80's stuff again. Give me another 4 years and I will probaly love the stuff from the 90's again.
Do i think any less of his music now that my style has changed, Nope, he was good at what he did, he was different. As much as I loved 80's metal, at the end it got way to out of hand, way to many poser bands riding off the tails of great bands that paved the way, and at the time, such groups as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden where a nice change of pace.
Yes Kurt was articulate and had a very unique style, i can tell Kurts guitar playing right away, he just had a certain style.
Under your definition that would make Jimmy Page not a guitar hero either, he was great at rythem and writting songs, he did something different then the norm and redefined the music scene. Guess what, so did Nirvana and that is why so many people think they are great!

Never said it's all about one thing or the other...I said IT'S THE WHOLE PACKAGE and I don't have to get nasty and call me small minded fukker!
Let my small, opinionated mind reiterate: "God status should be reserved for those who take it beyond just making music...It is about how many notes, articulation, feel technique and all that...Thats what sets virtuosos apart from the norm."
Richards and Page were inovators of their time and so they have earned that status...IMO
Kurt did not turne the "guitar" world on it's head...(We are talking about "Guitar"greatness) Kurt turned popular music on it's head. Two differnt things my little minder friend.
Do you two just argue for the sake of being assholes or do you really think you are the shit? I don't mind a good debate but there seems to be the same people aguing and making redundant or just plain un founded statements all the time...
Once more...Before you fire back with un related examples of guitar godlyness...I SAID IT SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR THE GUITARIST WHO GOES BEYOND THE NORM...THE WHOLE PACKAGE!!!
[edit] This was in my post too..."We all know there is more to playing than the number of notes...But when someone can take it to another level by having the skill to play at lightning speed as well as the rest...Thats a hero!"
Once again...I tell ya straight out there Ziggy...Just because someone opposes YOUR opinion you lash out my insulting their intelligence??? Beyond lame...
and YOU Endrik...Just gotta put your 2 cents in there...You need some life beyond this place I think...(Just my observation and not meant to insult you)
Argue with me all you like...No problem.
Insult me...Just fuck off and die!Last edited by sevser; 02-02-2007, 03:08 PM.
